I am designing the roller wheels for a bulkhead. By geometrical limitations the resultant hertz stress is 294 ksi. I am using Cast steel of fy=115 ksi. So the ratio is hertz/fy=2.6.
Where could I find an allowable Hertz stress (static loads)?

Typically shell elements are either uncoupled systems (membrane 2-dof + plate 3-dof per node), or coupled 5-dof (Ahmad element) described in Bathe's book. In both cases, the in-plane rotation in nodes is neglected or an artificial spring is added to avoid numerical problems during the solution...
