    wood stud wall with opening

I have to design the (seismic) strengthening of a wood stud wall. The wall is 11’x 8’ with an opening at the center of 3’ x 4’. I don’t know how to compute the tension forces on the reinforcing straps located at top and bottom of the opening. The total shear force is 3000lbs

    Hertz (Contact) Stress

I am designing the roller wheels for a bulkhead. By geometrical limitations the resultant hertz stress is 294 ksi. I am using Cast steel of fy=115 ksi. So the ratio is hertz/fy=2.6. Where could I find an allowable Hertz stress (static loads)? Hertz stress= ??? x fy

    Unbalanced Mass

I am trying to calculate the vibration induced by a water pump that works at 600 rmp. How can I estimate the unbalanced mass?

    Solid elements with rotational dofs

Does anybody know a paper or location in the web where I could find the formulation for a FEM solid element with 6 dof per node? Thanks, CMFG

    6-dof shell element

Typically shell elements are either uncoupled systems (membrane 2-dof + plate 3-dof per node), or coupled 5-dof (Ahmad element) described in Bathe's book. In both cases, the in-plane rotation in nodes is neglected or an artificial spring is added to avoid numerical problems during the solution...
