Washer over long slot hole

Hi everyone, I was wondering if by thickening the plate washer, I would get away from covering the total length of the long slot (3"). If not, this would mean that at a spot where my bolt is totally at one extremity of the long slot, I would need a plate washer of about 5 1/2" long! Thanks

    Connection software

I was wondering what software is the best for calculating steel connections. I've been doing my own excel spreadsheets, but am still looking for a software. Any suggestions. Thx

    Descon

Has anybody used DESCON software for designing connections. I'm looking into giving the software a try but I don't know anybody who has used it. Any comments or feedback. Thx

    Eccentricity in shear tab design

Hi everyone, My question is this: When designing a shear tab (extended), can we say that the load passes through the center of gravity of my bolts and consider the eccentricity only on the welds of the shear tab to the web and flanges of the supporting member, and verify the welding with the...

    Column canopy vs uplift

Hi everyone, I'm looking to do a preliminary design of a column for a canopy for a terace of a restaurant. I was wondering on how to calculate the uplift which will pull on the column, created by the wind on the canopy. Thx in advance

    Capacity of support angle

Hello everyone, Does anybody have a site where I can see an example of how to design or verify the capacity of an angle which is anchored to a concrete wall, and which support a grating floor. The angle would be 20' in length and there are no geometrical constraint on the size of the legs...

Flexural Capacity Of outstanding leg of angle

Hi everyone, Can anybody give me a little trick to calculate the flexural capacity of the outstanding leg of an angle bolted to a wall. The angle is there to support a an aluminum doorsill. Thanks in advance everyone Have a good one.

    Section Class?

Hi everyone, Ok, this will probably sound like a dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyways: What section class (class 1, 2 or 3) would a PL10"x3/8" belong to? (10" is vertical) The reason being, I've received a design for a ships ladder with that plate as a stringer and I want to check if it...

    Interior wall division loading

Hi everyone, I have to design / choose anchor bolts to anchor interior wall divisions to the ceiling and to the front of the concrete floor slabs. The components of the interior wall divisions is as follows: 2 gypse boards (16mm thick each) 1 vertical HSS tube from ceiling to top of window of...

    Permanent scaffolding

Hi everyone, I was hoping that maybe someone would help me out with a couple of company references. I'm working on a job where we must install a suspended permanent scaffolding system on rails in a atrium. The only company I've found so far is a company called INTO inc (at www.intoinc.com)...

    Using Hilt Anchor Software

Hi everyone Why is it everytime I try the Hilti anchor software, it never works, no anchor bolts are able to withstand the loads! For example, I have to anchor a W310x31 to a concrete wall. Concrete = 35MPa first anchor is 182mm from top of wall width of concrete wall is 300mm factored Load is...

    guradrail anchoring

Hi Everyone I have to pick a type of anchor bolt (HILTI) for a guardrail in a parking lot, and was wondering if anyone has an example of the design procedure. I went on the Hilti site and their example is not very clear on how to use their reduction factors imposed by the spacing of the anchor...

    Seated beam connection

Hi everyone, I'm designing a seated connection for a tubular beam connecting to a tubular column. I find that the ways i've seen to establish the required bearing length (N) are a little unclear. Since N is an important property for determining the thickness of the angle which will be used as...

    weld autolisp routine?

Can anyone tell me about a good (free) welding symbol autolisp routine that really works. I tried autoweld and can't get the routine to work at all. Thx in advance.

    Steel Ladder deflection

I'm designing a structural steel ladder of about 7.5m (25ft) in length. However I am wondering if a deflection of L/300 is enough or if it should be stiffer.
Any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

    Overhead Crane

    Hi
I'm inquiring about how to design the beams for an overhead crane. The beams have to be about 60ft long and are spaced 48 ft apart from one another.
I'd like to know if there are any sites where i can look up the equations, loads to be considered etc, to be able to design my supporting...
