Is actual commissioning of fire, F/S and smoke dampers involve whether they close w/o binding or is it just installation checks such as for sleeve clearance, breakaway connections, access doors, etc?
I have a 6 story healthcare building. Each air handler (2 total) is around 140,000 cfm.
What type of construction is permissable for the supply and return shafts?
How are the takeoffs for each floor sealed at the shaft?
Leakage testing advised?
What type testing should I specify regarding centrifugal water cooled chiller factory testing?
Full load operation only with tonnage calculation?
Verification of chiller operation throughout its entire range without shutdown due to nuisance trips?
Measurement of current draw at max operation...
I have been specifying Ruskin DIBD-2 fire dampers since I started my career
It has been brought to my attention that those dampers are not UL listed in horizontal installations for sizes larger than 24x24...
My calcs indicate 9 air changes per hour for the labs .... 100% OSA ..... 49 deg F space temp
The writeup from the school says 10-12 ACH occupied
I am providing 15.6 ACH
Is this adequate for control of odors?
The spaces are for cadaver disection .... no BSC's
I have 4 dryers connecting to a common duct/exhaust fan.
My 2 schemes of thought of design/control as follows:
Scheme 1: Have a "draft hood" type arrangement (indirect connection) where the dryer exhaust would discharge into the exhaust duct such that there would be a gap between the ducts...
I have a project involving a 70 ton rooftop MAU seving a science lab. 100% OSA.
Basis of design is around AAON with a modulating hot gas reheat coil / scheme.
I'm looking at McQuay RPS model and their reheat scheme is via a subcooling coil between the condenser and TXV.
Would welcome your...
Is there any MFR or a waste oil burner/boiler in the range of 200 BHP?
This would give me 2 boilers at 2/3 capacity each.
Any experiences with this application?
I have just been given a 20,000 SF health science lab building for a major university in NY.
Are there any special code authorities / regulations / guidelines.
Thanks.
I got a problem with very little ceiling space for a 4-pipe fan coil units to serve a corridior.
7" total ceiling space for ceiling mounted units .... similar to EMI CAF4-08 ....... EMI's are 9+"
Will take a wall mounted (up high) near the ceiling ..... something slimline w/ integral...
I would like your input/experience with McQuay's "new" screw chiller model (ALS) that has been supposedly redesigned becuase of the amount of failures from its predecessor.
I've got a morgue design added to the scope of work.
The hospital is a small coal town in PA and the morgue is used from time-to-time by the county coroner.
The current system has 2 fans, 1 exh, 1 supply and a residential window shaker AC unit. Supply fan is shut off. The window shaker is...
I was at a site earlier and was looking at the existing heating water plant for retro-fitting pneumatic controls to DDC.
There are 2 3-pass firetube boilers, 40 yrs old (defunct mfr), retubed and w/ newly installed burners. Prob 100 hp or so. No water treatment to be found.
No backflow...
What's your thoughts/experience with 407C in regards to charging ..... If a leak were to occur, would the machine require a complete new charge or just topping out w/ 134A be sufficient.
This pertains to York's YCAS air cooled screw chiller in which I may force them to bid another model w/ 134A...
I've just been handed a task of calculating and designing the smoke control system for an atrium.
The project is a 9 story (occupied) hospital in Atlantic City, NJ with a mech/elect penthouse and heliport directly above that.
The atrium in question is 3-stories in height with the opening...
I am trying to calculate the cooling energy savings freehand via psych chart and a formula. I have a formula for heating and am looking for one for cooling. My psych chart tells me I'm reducing the load by 52 tons by going to a return air system. The system will then have 95.5 tons for a...
I have been assigned to an air handler replacement project serving a lab of a hospital. The system is 100% OSA, dual-duct and has approx 16,500 cfm at 60 deg supply air to the space. The new system will supply 20,000 cfm and possibly 52-54 deg air range.
At that cfm, the lab will have about 1.5...
