we are setting up a new (used) lathe, it's a FEMCO DURGA-25E
We will be using it for production machining of 4130 DOM tubing, using coated carbide tooling.
What coolant would you use and why?
some obvious things that we would prefer
Compatible with the workpiece, tooling, and machine.

I'm looking for information and descriptions of the maths for calculating the forces required to permanantly bend tubing using a fixed die and rolling wiper. Anyone have any suggestions for this metallurgist who's a bit out of his element?
I can post a schematic of the machine in a bit if that...
How's the performance of the Miller Dynasty 200DX?
We're looking at purchasing one w/ watercooled torch and control pedal.
Is this an industrial strength machine?

I'm putting together the information about designing a very small network to share data btw 4-5 computers. As three of the computers (may) will be running SW(12/13), I thought I would ask here about any easy and safe solutions. I'm guessing RAID storage with it's own case and controller, coupled...
I'm looking for induction brazing equipment vendors, fitting this type of description:
midwestern US, Detroit, MI preferred; able to develop both the coils and process; a smaller company would be just fine
about us:
very small manufacturing startup company, Detroit, MI; we'd like to...
Where? We purchased an auction box, has lots of machining tooling in it, particularly several pounds of carbide inserts, some with PCD tips, some coated, etc...
best ideas?

There were some links in a thread to some quite inexpensive cards that were SW approved, can someone re-post those? I'm using 2010 with a really cheap card, and it looks like some $$ is coming down the pipe to invest in a card and second monitor, a matching monitor is $169, and if I can get in...
The startup manufacturing company I'm working with is going to need to purchase a cmm machine in the next few months. I need some recommendations for re-sellers or sites with decent used cmm's.
We are looking to keep the cost down and don't need scanning, or cnc control, just the ability to...
I'm finishing a print to be sent out for manufacturing, it has an odd thread on it: 1-24tpi, it will be single pointed on a cnc lathe. Should I callout the major/minor/pitch diameters?

A client uses autodesk for their 3D modelling, I need to open their models in SW10. Two opened just fine, the geometry was usable and consistent. However the rest of the models I've been sent give me an error, early end of file or corrupted data.
What are we missing, they say that all the...
What's the commonly accepted method for cleaning the ends of cut tubing (laser/milled) 4130 cond N in process?
For one off's green scrubbies work fine, but not for large quantities. (this is in reference to cleaning the oxide film and oil prior to TIG welding)
Sand blast was mentioned, but...
There must be ASTM/SAE/AMS/Etc standards for the testing of the physical parameters of epoxy matrices...
Which are good ones? I dont really know what I want to know, I just figure I need to charecterize the properties of the resin+additive formulations.
Thanks

I am trying to import an IGES file into SW 2008. I can import it as either importedcurves or a 3d sketch. (its the centerline of a complex curve, similar to a helix)
The problem is that the imported curve is 25.4 times bigger than I need.
The sketch tool scale is not available....
how do I...
This is a pretty easy calculation, however I've been out of school too long and my last two jobs had very little thermo, or even math required.
If I know my mass, Cp, Mp and Ambient I can calculate the number joules required to make the mass of metal reach the Mp. How do I figure time?
Joules...
I am going to pour a Silicon RTV mold with Cerrotru. This is a Bi-Sn eutectic, with the Mp@281*F. The shape is approximately a hollow cylinder enclosing around 160in^3. Should be 50lbs + gates/risers of metal.
I didn't design the mold, its not optimal. Though it should work. There is one spot...
I have a tough one here....
currently a modified 420ss (+1%Mo) (HRc~54) is failing relatively fast, we prototyped 302 Rolled to Spring temper; at 160F they lasted longer than the teh 420, at 212F they dont last long at all.
Environment: 212F, saturated steam, some fine particulates, tap...
Yep, even more expensive than Elgiloy....
My tool shop got a RFQ for some small parts of 0.002" platinum, .75"x0.63".
Any hints?
(IE, where to get material. Behaviour in stamping, rolling conditions, etc...)

I'm not really sure this is the right place, but seems that it might be.
I'm looking for a blower (or whatever will do the job) to produces 23SCFM @ 3+" H2O in the 3/4" port (and the entire motor) of a 5PM shaker motor (50lbf @ <5000Hz). I would prefer DC powered from <48V, however if...
Theyve moved my Lab from a production facility to an office. The first difficulty was finding a compressor to deliver teh required amount of air, at pressure, while not being to loud, or requiring extensive filtration and drying.
Found that... (Dental grade compressors arn't cheap, but they do...
Anyou have any solid info or references they could point me towards for causes of inter granular failure in bending of 420 stainless (with 1%Mo addition)?
