Hi,
I have a bores that has two features that serve as stops for the items that are press fit.
There is a perpendicularity call out to datums A-B
Is this simply stating that both of these features must be perpendicular to 0.15 to both datums A and B?
Also will the tolerance zone for both...
I am looking for an example of how to perform a tolerance stack up to check the worst case circular lateral run out.
I am only finding basic 1D stack examples , or 2D gap analysis type problems. Hoping someone could point me to a few good resources.
I have paged through Bryan R. FISCHER...
I have a roller bearing, the cup and cone have a circular runout tolerance. The hub that the shaft and bearing are inserted also have a circular run out tolerance.
I am a trying to understand if the cup and cone tolerances will add/stack up and affect the hub run out?
I've noticed that 2D prints from Germany (one that I have seen) do not have GD&T , is this common ?
The print calls out this ISO 1101 spec, which is GD&T. Just not sure why symbols not shown on drawing.

I have a rod/ shaft with a hall sensor that senses a magnet. I purchased a general bearing from Granger, mini ball Brg 626 6mm Bory Alloy Stl Item # 49DD56.
The bearing seems to have excessive radial or tilt angle as shown in the image.
The problem is the hall sensor is measuring the...
I’m almost always asked if I can perform a tolerance stack up analysis, and the answer is yes, a basic linear 1D, stack up.
I have yet to see a 2D, 3D or a radial stack up calculation. Is it just a case of these being more complicated and difficult so designers rely on the 1D stack up making...
This may belong in personal strategy section, but I wanted to hear from those in the auto industry.
At current company work was steady, and then just stopped. I know it is not just me , but I can see it happening to our team as well. I am relatively new in my career and so far every company...
Hi All,
I am learning ANSYS workbench.
I am looking to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Can anyone recommend a good book that covers the basics ? I would prefer not to get drowned in details but at least understand what the software is doing.

I’m curious to see others experience with the FMEA process per AIAG, under the broad scope of the APQP process.
I am under the impression that companies say they align with this to be compliant, however it’s has been my experience that the subject is often very misunderstood. What typically...
I’m in the early stage of my career with about 3 years experience. (5 years if I count the internship while finishing my graduate studies.)
Every company I’ve worked for( 3 in total) has been very dysfunctional. Here are the typical stages/ pattern each company has followed:
1. Current CEO...
Hello engtips,
I wanted to get the community's take on this. I have a print that calls out several specs, with no dates.
Does this imply using the most current released spec or does the date of the print govern which spec release to use ?
Thank you.
Hello Eng-Tips,

I'm calling out the depth for a hole, is there any reason why I would use unilateral over max, min callout ?
Thank you.
I have a part with three holes, with a diametric 1 mm positional tolerance defined at datum A, B, C for the two top holes.
I am having difficulty seeing how the tolerance is applied to datum C , being the inside face of that hole?
Datum A and B are clear to me, I.e., can vary diametrically 1mm...
Hello eng-tips,
We (Umatrix R US) manufacture and sell an item (shown below) that has two parts , part 1 we make, part 2 we get from a supplier. If either part changes , i.e., fit, form or function, we file an ECN. Pretty much no brainer for that.
What about if the supplier (Motors Plus) that...
Hello Eng Tips,
I have computed the eigenvalue buckling analysis in Ansys. I have obtained the load multiplier and the deflection. How do I get the stress associated with this loading?
Not the equivalent stress, but the bending stress associated with the buckling loading?
Thank you.
Hi All,
Conceptually, I understand, but not sure how to apply to check to see if my part is in spec. Individual measurements are falling out of the range provided, but the averages meet the print.
I have a bushing, on the part the tolerance is given as
70.1 mm
69.9 mm
GD&T is given here...
I want to inquire from all those who have experience being in a new role.

Hello Eng-Tips,
I am testing a component in an anechoic chamber. The data is reported in dBA.
First test results in a 55 dBA level
Second test is 59 dBA
My question is what is considered significant or noticeable with dBA? I understand that dBA is frequency weighted, but not sure how to...
