Why do we need impact testing for 2205 flange?

Oh okay. I was taking it that since the MDMT is -20 and above that it didn't need impact tested. But it seems that UHA-51(d)(3) applies only to (-a, -b, and -c)? So based on this, hypothetically, would it need impact tested if the MDMT were 32F?

Why do we need impact testing for 2205 flange?

We have a carbon steel vessel that has a 304L nozzle installed on the top head. We are switching out the 2" sch40 nozzle with 2205 for CLSCC resistance. The vessel has an MDMT of -20. The company performing the calculations is saying that we need to have impact testing performed for the 150#...

    Testing FREON relief valves

We have our relief valves pop tested at certain intervals depending on service. We have some valves that are in Freon service that are replaced every 5 years. We also pop test these after they are removed to see if they would have relieved at the set pressure. We have some valves that were...

Is 308H sufficient for 304H in 1100F in SO2 service or should we use something else?

What Ferrite numbers should we be at? Is there a range or specific number?

Is 308H sufficient for 304H in 1100F in SO2 service or should we use something else?

I'm not sure what the FN number is on the filler. I know they use 308h Lincoln wire. I am trying to get the weld(s) ferrite tested to see what they are. I am inclined to say it is the design as well. Each time it has cracked, it has been in the throat of the weld in the same place.

Is 308H sufficient for 304H in 1100F in SO2 service or should we use something else?

@edstainless, I'm fairly confident that we are getting out the cracks entirely. If we don't get a good PT, we go until it's basically 1/16" opening making it a root pass. The cracking has always been in the center of the weld. I was very careful with the welding and NDE (i even added PAUT...

Is 308H sufficient for 304H in 1100F in SO2 service or should we use something else?

All, We have a vessel that has had 4 repairs in the same area and just cracked again. We have repaired it using 308H filler for the past repairs. Should we use an Inco or is 308H fine? Vessel Information: Vintage- 2005 Head Thickness- .315" Head Material- 304H Design Temp- 1250F Design...

Butyl rubber as a storage tank liner for high active surfactant?

Thanks, guys. We will recommend that they install coupons to verify compatibility.

Should a 2205 tank have a pad between the tank and its concrete base?

Thanks, @EdStainless. This particular tank is fairly small, about 12' in diameter, and temperatures will range from 60F-100F. Would simply setting it directly on the concrete and caulking the chime suffice then? I wasn't sure if the concrete affects 2205 differently than other types of stainless.

Should a 2205 tank have a pad between the tank and its concrete base?

We are having a new 2205 tank being shop fabricated that will be placed on an outdoor concrete pad. Should we have a pad of some sort between the tank and the concrete base?

Butyl rubber as a storage tank liner for high active surfactant?

A colleague is wanting to know if they can use a tank with a Butyl rubber liner in it for a high active surfactant product. This is what I found in the SDS(hope it helps). Thanks in advance. Alcohols, C10-16 CAS Number: 67762-41-8 Content (W/W): 0.2 - 0.3% Synonym: Alcohols, (C==10-16)...

ASME Sect. IV Is figure HLW-415 (d) considered a "full pen" weld? Is it .85 JE?

@r6155, that's what I was leaning toward. I contacted a colleague ealier and he thought it would be .85. I love codes.

ASME Sect. IV Is figure HLW-415 (d) considered a "full pen" weld? Is it .85 JE?

Our company requires that pressure vessel be built with a Joint Efficiency of a minimum .85, and if backing bars are used, they must be removed. The fab company sent me a few pages of section IV code with figure HLW-415 (d)and HLW-402 (a) highlighted. He said that this would result in a .85...

Repairing a National Board Registered heat exchanger using a non-R-Stamp company

The Chief, unfortunately, was not much help. He basically just said that since it operates under 15 psig, Illinois doesn't care. We ended up plugging tubes and ordering a new heat exchanger. FYI, Material availability was the issue, not cost.

Non-Code Vessel needs new bolted head - R-3 Form, U-Stamp, PRT?

The state guy (or gal) would not elaborate with his answer. I am attempting to contact the insurance company. In the mean-time i think I am going to have the new head designed and stamped if at all possible. I was hoping someone here had run into this situation before and could shed a bit of...

    Inspection Frequency for Heat Exchangers

I don't believe @MJCronin had any ill-intent with his post. He was just saying that it is fairly easy to find what you are looking for. . . . if you know what you are looking for. Heat Exchangers are typically considered "Pressure Vessels" as they have pressure being exerted on both sides...

Non-Code Vessel needs new bolted head - R-3 Form, U-Stamp, PRT?

I've been searching the Internets for the past few days trying to find an answer to my question to no avail. There is a similar thread on the forum here I found yesterday ( i cant seem to find it today) but it doesn't quite pertain to my dilemma. I've gotten in contact with the Representative...

Repairing a National Board Registered heat exchanger using a non-R-Stamp company

We have an ASME built and NB registered Heat Exchanger that we need to put new tubes in. It has seal-welded 2205 tubes in it and we would like to put 316L tubes in it (because of time constraints) using a non-R-Stamp shop (because of time constraints). This unit operates below 15psig so the...
