Typical cylindricity of shells made by plate rolling

Hello, What is the typical expected cylindricity (on the ID) of a shell prepared by rolling a plate? UG-80 only talks about the difference between the maximum and minimum inside diameters at any cross section. It doesn't talk about the cylindricity. Any idea? Abhishek

Sizing of concentric collector for diffuser pump

I meant the space after the diffuser and before the casing of the pump. This is marked by a red arrow in the attached file.

Sizing of concentric collector for diffuser pump

Which edition are you refering to? I am having book by Karassik, Messina, Cooper and Heald, 3rd edn..by the same name,,it doesnot have these chapters

Sizing of concentric collector for diffuser pump

Hello, Where can I find any thrumbrule for determine the sizing (specifically the cross section area) of a concentric collector in a pump with a diffuser? Thanks! Abhishek Basak

Sealing of gases by lip type seal

Hello ...thanks for the answers! If not a lip seal what other options do I have. My shaft is ~30mm dia, rotating at 2700 rpm.

Sealing of gases by lip type seal

Hello, Is it possible to have a reasonable level of leak tightness if a lip type seal (with grease lubrication) is used in a vertical shaft to seal against argon at 0.5 bar(g)? Thanks! Abhishek

Estimation of torque in stuffing box of pumps

Hello Efendy! Thanks for the very precise reply!.. In my application the stuffing box is on a vertical shaft and sealing against an argon gas environment which is very near to atmospheric pressure..I understand that stuffing box pressure is nearly equal to the process pressure, but is there any...

Estimation of torque in stuffing box of pumps

Hello, Does anybody know how to estimate the shaft torque required for a stuffing box, using self lubricated graphite packing? Abhishek

Single phase vs two phase system for heat removal

Hello, I have to design a heat exchanger with variable load such that the outlet temperature of the shell side (gas at high pressure) is maintained at constant temperature. I have two options: [Option1] Use single phase water on the tube side and control the shell side outlet temperature by...

Corelations for predicting the surge point of a blower

Hello, I am in the process for designing a blower from scratch for a very special service condition which is generally not met by commercial blower manufacturers. I would like to know if there are any correlations/theoretical techniques that can predict the surge point for a given impeller...

Way to calculate HTC on tubesheet

georgeverghese .. thanks for idea!..I was wondering if there is any correlation for heat transfer from a flat plate on which a number of cylinders are arranged perpendicular to the plate in an array...like tubes emerging from tubesheet. Abhishek

Way to calculate HTC on tubesheet

Hi..which section of which book? I don't think you can find this in any standard heat transfer book. Abhishek

Way to calculate HTC on tubesheet

Hello, Is there any way to calculate the heat transfer coefficient at the shell-side surface of a tube-sheet in a shell and tube type Hx? Of course CFD is one option, but is there any easier alternative? Abhishek

Recomended spacing between ODs of pipes/tubes in an array

Q-What pipe size are we talking here? A- Its 170 mm ID, Thickness: 8mm Q-Do you need welded pipe? A-No it will be a seamless tube Q-Do you need steel pipe? A-Steel (2.25Cr-1Mo) is from process and cost consideration Q-Could you use reeled pipe? A-No its straight lengths..not reeled Q-Is the...

Nusselt number correlation for tube array with two different tube sizes

There are 5x5 number of tubes for the larger size..6x6 of the smaller size..both are 300mm long Abhishek

Recomended spacing between ODs of pipes/tubes in an array

Hello...no there is no flange to speak of..there is no explosive environment..it is 8mm thick so should be weldable in a single pass, else I am open to reducing the thickness to 6 mm...after each weld is finished it will be subjected to 100% radiography before moving on to the next tube...hope...
