Socket flange , scoket depth tolerance

Socket depth is usually given as a minimum. No tolerance.

New Patented High Speed Steel Alloys

AR (abrasion resistant) steel already exists.....try a new name.

    Dissimilar Metal Weld Qualification

Definitely true...always include the MTR in the PQR....my comments are strictly on additional chemical testing by you.
  4. D

    Welding of HSS to HSS

    CSA W59 App. L
  5. D

    Dissimilar Metal Weld Qualification

I should add that you cannot qualify a fillet weld procedure and use it for pressure welds. It is only good for non-pressure retaining fillet welds. See QW-202.2.
  6. D

    Dissimilar Metal Weld Qualification

No. Chemical Composition is not required. There is no need to have hardness per Sec. IX except HFO (QW-453).
  7. D

Piping insulation lagging and PEC scan

    Aluminum stucco/cladding.

Forming Strains under ASME VIII-1 vs ASME VIII-2

This is false. Absolutely correct....let me jump on a plane to go measure this at the head manufacturing facility. Too bad they didn't have an approximation I could calculate instead.......oh wait.

    Vessels Manways

12" x 16" elliptical manway or 16" diameter is minimum per Sec. VIII. Provincial regulations will usually coincide with these minimum sizes. Site specs may be way different.

Forming Strains under ASME VIII-1 vs ASME VIII-2

R6155......0.90D and 0.17D approximation is used widely. Compress uses this. The interpretation you provided merely states that the ellipsoidal head does not HAVE to match the .90D and .17D measurements. Not everything needs to be built like the space shuttle. I have never checked strain on a...

Forming Strains under ASME VIII-1 vs ASME VIII-2

GMAW shotcircuit - Lack of fusion

It's not the weld, it's the welder....which is why QW-404.32 is still in place.
  13. D

Joint efficiency - UG-27 ASME BPVC

And see endnote 20 for longitudinal stress.
  14. D

Joint efficiency - UG-27 ASME BPVC

See UW-12(d). It can be 1.0 if no RT/UT. If there are no Cat. B seams (like slip on flanges).
  15. D

Joint efficiency - UG-27 ASME BPVC

Not sure what you are saying here....E=.85 with no RT for your pipe.
  16. D

Joint efficiency - UG-27 ASME BPVC

E would not be .7 for pipe. Seamless or welded (no filler metal) = 0.85 Could be 1.0 if slip on flanges are used.
  17. D

GMAW shotcircuit - Lack of fusion

No longer true. QW-403.10 has been removed from the Code. Transfer mode is also no longer an essential variable.

    Hydrotest Clarification

B16.5 allows a hydrotest of 1.5x the 38Deg. C. value. See 2.6. See also, 345.2.1. for piping hydrotest pressures.

    API 650 SPOT RT

Interesting tidbit for Sec. VIII: Standard Designation: BPV Section VIII Div 1 Edition/Addenda: Para./Fig./Table No: Subject Description: Section VIII, Division 1 (1995 Edition, 1997 Addenda); UW-52(c) Date Issued: 01/26/1999 Record Number: BC98-290 Interpretation Number : VIII-1-98-53...
