GRP Piping Seismic deign

Attached are some references I have for GRP/FRP piping design. It has been years since I did actual calculations using Caesar so I forgot most of how I performed them, but the attached may help.

GRP tends to hate stress loading and has in my experience very limited ability to be ductile or accept any excess forces or stresses, especially point loads or stress concentrations. The pipe joint areas in particular are often non homogeneous and result in significant stress concentration due the changes in thickness at many of the joiint design.

I would be very careful here and look closely at what snickster has provided.

Personally I would never now bury GRP unless it is straight level lines inside a plant. Good in its right place, but can e very tricky outside of that. Just my experience.
