    Hydropower from water mains..

is this where the Tesla turbine or Tesla pump might be employed? or the Wolfhart Willimczik pumps? vin

    Hydropower from water mains..

Ok then.... so the major flaw in this system would be the reduced pressure after passing the turbine? If the issue of loss of pressure was "resolved" then this system maybe worthwhile?? (a big if I know!) I suppose it would depend on how much pressure was lost after passing through the...

    Hydropower from water mains..

The turbines would have to be between the pump and the township.... it wouldn't work on a per house or per street basis, as you've said not enough volume or continuous supply. The pressure drop was the only concern.... cheers, thanks for your input.... vin

Underground Heat to power generators ( no water or steam)

The article was vague in it's description of the proposed method of generation that prompted my question. If it was me... "I'd be sitting on a beach earning 20%!" cheers vin

    Hydropower from water mains..

Thanks for the replies.... I understand that energy is used to run the pumps, and that any energy extracted would be less than what is used to run the pump etc. However this is how I was looking at the concept.... Water is being pumped to my house right now, through the local councils water...

    Hydropower from water mains..

Given that water is pumped from the reservoir to the town, is it feasible/practical to use the kinetic energy produced in the pipeline to drive turbines installed along the mains waters, for electricty generation?? how would one calculate the potential generation ?? With standard hydro...

Underground Heat to power generators ( no water or steam)

I've just read an article about a local businessman who claims to have found a way to use "underground heat" to power generators,to produce electricity refered to as "dry-wells". The system doesn't extract or use underground water or steam, and they don't inject water to create steam either...

    Building carbon fibre wheel

I've found numerous sites that show how to build a carbon fibre frame, but none show how to make a 3 spoke carbon wheel? I'm looking for info on how to build a 3 spoke carbon wheel, calculations needed, design considerations etc. would be much appreciated cheers vin

    Aerodynamic effect on spinning wheel?

All of the pictures and video clips I've seen of F1 cars in the wind tunnel show the airflow over a stationary car. Given that when the F1 car is on track the wheels rotate in the opposite direction to the wind flow, what effect does this have on the wind flow/aerodynamics of the car? and how...

    intermediate gears...

If I understand correctly, if there are a number of gears connected together, the intermediate gears between the input and output gears, have no bearing on the gear ratio? which would be determined by the input gear and the output gear? Now does this still apply in this example?..... If the...

    Question on Gear performance....

    Question on Gear performance....

I have a question on the performance of two types of gearing mechanisms... If you were to compare a chain and sprocket system eg bicycle to that of "gears" (of equivalent size) is there any difference between the two methods, on a performance comparison?? Does one method have any...
