Helix Angle relative to Pitch of a Spiral

after some deliberation, it dawned on me that the value for PITCH is the blank O.D. x Pi for a 45deg tooth. (1 to 1 ratio)... unless I'm missing something.

Helix Angle relative to Pitch of a Spiral

I know this is easier than what I'm making it.... When constructing a Spiral and the starting position is known, what is the PITCH value you'd enter to get a common 45deg tooth gear such as for a matched set of right-angle gears. Tried 8, which doesnt look too bad, but I know it's gotta be...

    Heart Shaped Box Cam

a suggestion to improve the design would be to have a roller at the pin, rather than a fixed pin, especially with plastic as the base material for the cam. (It almost looks like an obround at the end of the bar..)

    Smart Mates - Linear Coupler?

maybe I'm missing something, but can't the lower angled surface of the Dog be mated to one Cone's tapered surface ? Because the left and right Cones already move correctly, there is no need to use both conical surfaces. quote:"So the Cones are mated to the Mandrel using "screw" mechanics."...

    Linkage Torque/calculation

as a sidenote... this very mechanism was used in some early washing machines The main shaft being the agitator in the tub (can't say for sure if there was more than 180deg rotation in the one I tore apart as a kid) The long link (shown as the actuator in your example) was an arm attached to a...

Best way to positively lock a shrink fit gear

hug = hub also, just to clarify, the dowel pin centers were close to the OD.

Best way to positively lock a shrink fit gear

keyways don't have to be "standard" depth; they can be much shallower and still provide the needed torque resistance, as the key is in direct shear. A method I used one time to affix a chain sprocket that had a tapered hug to a hardened shaft that had an involute gear already on it, was to...

Confining a pipe within a hole

First ay pic....got left off initial post (btw, how does one get more than a single pic in a post?)http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=417adf25-9b06-446b-9683-20692a079173&file=Pipe_In_Plate_Ay_Mates_1.JPG

Confining a pipe within a hole

(used 2006) Try this; put a cylindrical hole in a Plate. Make a Sphere with OD that matches the hole diameter of plate. Insert an Axis using Front and Right Planes. Extrude-cut a hole through the sphere that will be some dimension larger than the pipe. (Your "free movement" Make a Pipe, and...

    Differential planetary gearing

Here's some info that may be what you're looking for.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epicyclic_gearing Note this paragraph under Compund planets; > During World War II, a special variation of epicyclic gearing was developed for portable radar gear, where a very high reduction ratio in a...

Pull Out Force Calculation in Aluminum

Have done a lot of reading on the 'net trying to find a definitive answer for calculating the Pull Out Force of a screw in Aluminum. Here are the knowns 5/16-18 SHCS Class 2 Gr 8 6061 Aluminum plate 3/4" thick (40ksi ?) Length of engagement = 5/8" On another site (engineersedge.com) there...

    Trouble modeling geodesic dome

I've used "close" within 0.010 mates when laying out (for instance) a fixed-centerline belt/pulley arrangement at some angle to an axis as compared to x-y decimal coordinates of the shaft centerlines for the pulley locations themselves. It works fine and allows for metric/English units if need...

Hole Wizard automatically "Fixes" location of first Point

Checked the Snap To options and Grid wasn't checked on. Checked the Major Grid spacing, then took out the Minor spacings...still no change. Shut off all Snap-To options, and the HW still Fixes the first point. Seem like it was something that was not so intuitive....and I really can't recall...

Hole Wizard automatically "Fixes" location of first Point

SW2006 & SW2010 on different computers... It seems the HoleWizard wants to place the first hole and make it Fixed...the question is "why?" I know I've run across this before and was able to change something to stop it from doing that, but I can't seem to find where the heck the mode is changed.
