Hi,
We are trying to find directional mechanical properties of a thick walled composite tube (3.5" OD X 1" ID). We know the layup, but it is becoming too complicated to find the young's modulus, shear modulus and poisson's ratio in three principal directions using conventional methods (we use...
Hi,
Has anyone worked with or seen the units kg/mm^1.5 for fracture toughness before? I am trying to convert these to Mpa.sqrt(m) which is typically what we use for all our calculations.
Is anyone familiar with a conversion from kg/mm^1.5 to Mpa.sqrt(m)?
Any help would be appreciated...
The analysis that I will be dealing with will be similar to deep drawing. The time scales will not be as small as drop or crash tests but the model will have very high strain rates. Thus the need for an explicit code that has accurate failure criteria(s) for composites.
I haven't personally...
Hi,
I'm new to the world of fea for composite structures. The problems I will be dealing with are going to involve large strain and will require the use of an explicit code. So I was curious to know if anyone has any experience with explicit codes for composite analysis. Any recommendations...
IRStuff,
How do I convert that data from the steam tables to amount of water I need to add to 1 cubic feet to fully saturate it?
rmw,
The assumption is that there is water in the volume to start with.
Hi,
Can anyone help me out with this problem? I have a volume of 1 cubic foot. This volume has to be saturated to 100% at 350 F. How much volume of water needs to be added to 1 cubic foot of volume in order to get 100% saturation at 350 F?
Thanks,
Mike
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a two pin wire-to-wire connector for 600V DC and 400 mA?
I need something thats the opposite of what is desired. The connector needs to disconnect relatively easily with little effort.
While the connector needs to stay together while shipping, it needs to come apart...
Teguci,
There is no 3-1/5" dia hole. It is one solid Steel component. The blue components on both ends are solid Steel parts.
JStephen,
I'm multiplying the pressure applied on those cross-sectional areas to get forces on the rock.
IRstuff is right about +ve X & -ve X. Sorry for using abbreviated terms.
This has been tested in this exact same configuration with the rock being intact. So assume the rock is strong enough. The two Steel end plates are circular with cross sectional areas as shown in figure. The cross setional...
Actually I wanted to know if my approach to find the load acting on the rock is correct. I know it's a simple mechanics problem, but I feel like i'm missing something here.
Hi,
I have a configuration in which a peice of rock is under hydrostatic pressure (see attached figure) and i'm trying to figure out what the stress on this rock will be.
The boundary conditions on the Steel end plates are such that the right and left plates are restricted to move in the -ve X...
So stress & deformation values are same for both metal & rock with the same geometry?
Then how does FEA take the Drucker Prager material non-linearity into account while solving the model?
Thanks Terio.
So if we have two identical geometries and one of them has a Drucker Prager material model applied to it, the values of stress and deformation will be different because of a change in the yield point due to the hydrostatic part of stress?
Hi,
Does anyone have tips on modelling rock in ANSYS (structural analysis)? From my research so far, it seems I have to use an extended Drucker Prager model. I am having difficulty in understanding what the basic difference is between using a Drucker Prager model & the standard method of...
Hi,
I'm trying to find a SS304L 4" ID X .024" Wall seam welded or seamless tube for a hydroforming application. All the manufacturers I have talked to have been negative since the wall is so thin.
Does anyone here know of any manufacturers that can make tubing with these specs?
Thanks,
Mike
