You can still optimize HP, at least on a n/a car, by chooing the correct exhaust plumbing at all points to the exhaust system exit. Sounds like tuning. Anyway-
Why isn't it an issue on street cars? Maybe you mean OE cars with turbos, and the typical manufacturer not particularly concerned...
Well I'm confused then. Hemi says "tuning really isn't an important consideration post turbo. The cylinder pulses are heavily dampened due to the expansion in the turbine. The overriding criterion is minimization of backpressure."
Then, subsequent replies here go on to talk about raising...
I'd suggest measuring your exhaust backpressure. David Vizard suggests about .2psi for a no hp loss exhaust system.
Pay as much attention to the muffler you stick on the end of it. You don't want a muffler with perforated core that's restricting exhaust flow.
See if you can find info on the...
Well, related topics aside, I'm just wondering if there's a difference between a stiff gear turning a tall tire and a not-so stiff gear turning a shorter tire. When both set ups more or less equal out mathematically when plugged into a mph formula. Or any variations of that formula.
A...
I know that tire diameter is part of various formulas like:
MPH =
RPM x Tire Diameter
------------------
gear ratio x 336
But just in case.. I wanted to ask if all other things being equal, does a ring & pinion ratio of say 3.45 with a talle(r) tire perform better in drag racing than a r&p...
One of the car mags, Hot Rod or Car Craft, just did a test on all the heat coatings available for various parts of the engine.
Coating the headers did lower external measured exhaust manifold temps by 200deg, but did not increase dyno HP at all, as I recall.
On a side note, I glued some plastic dowel rod to the underside of my 1150 Suzuki's CV carb tops to fill up most of the cavity above and in the slides. I theorized that engine vacuum has to empty out the slide cavity each time you wick the throttle..
The dowel rod was small enough to fit...
Speaking of today's high gas price world, would you believe a V10 Viper turbocharged to over 1000hp can get almost 30mpg on the highway with its' OE 3.07 axle ratio and a .5 overdrive 6th gear?
10 litre/450hp Vipers typically get highway mpg numbers well into the 20's when burbling along in...
How important is the rotational order of primaries entering a collector? Meaning having primaries arranged in the collector in order of their firing order to yield maximum benefit from an adjacent primary's ability to assist it's neighbor.
As opposed to having the across the collector from...
I've been searching the internet and can't any info on choosing pipe diameter, flow requirement calculations etc for a turbocharged car. Plenty of theory for n/a cars of course.
People in the car forums I hang out in say it 'doesn't matter'. Could be I suppose. With the turbo blocking so much...
I've recently found and read the Vizard article. Many websites have printed it.
If the muffler was further back that'd leave more room for the gases to expand before reaching the restriction of a typical muffler.
Vizard says tune the engine for best H/ collector length, then add the...
So sonic cleaning is out then? There's a number of crevices in the small assembly but most of the cleaning is on the many faces of the prism. There is also some sort of orange-ish acid used for stubborn stains.
They're not horribly dirty, just the odd fingerprint or bit of foggy film to be...
A relative of mine is involved with a company that has its' production employees use kleenex, toothpicks, and acetone to clean their prisms during the product assembly process. This seems terribly lo-tech, and is a major hold up in the overall production count per shift. The prisms are used in...
I'd like to re-do an after market blower intake manifold in some sort of plastic media that's comparable to AMODEL. Something that does not have to be injection molded. Available in Part A&B canned form, or that can at least be purchased in block form to allow me to have it machined to my...
