Torsional Strength Equivalent Bar vs Tube

Guys firstly thanks very much for your time and help, but it hasn't quite clicked yet! I think I'll sit down tonight when I'm home from work and try and get my head around it. I did a few years of this and struggled through it, and not used it at all for about 8 years now as done very little...

Torsional Strength Equivalent Bar vs Tube

I could use 7/8" tube instead of 3/4" but definitely no bigger, sorry I'm struggling with the formula above, I've lost myself not having done anything like this for a while...

Torsional Strength Equivalent Bar vs Tube

I want to replace a piece of 15mm round bar with CDS tube of a larger diameter to save weight, I am looking to use 3/4" CDS steel tube, but unsure what wall thickness is required to provide the same strength as the original 15mm diameter round steel bar. Length is 600mm, ends will be TIG...

    Anodising Problem

Hi, I have had some aluminium parts water jet cut for a job, and needed them anodised. I decided to try myself as there will be a slow but steady trickle of these parts to do and it is not economical to have them done professionally with minimum orders. I set up a small rig along with tanks...

    Titanium alloy grade

These are not for engine internals, and I will be able to roll the threads myself if required, not sure if heat treating is required though as I dont know if the material work hardens, though I'm sure google will bring some answers up.

    Titanium alloy grade

Hi, I'm very new to titanium, and just want to know if 6/4 is ok for machining bolts/fixings or is it brittle? I ask as it is easiest to obtain and have been told to watch out for different grades with regards to different uses. The fixings will be subject to some shocks etc in their use and...

    Aluminium Expansion

Ah of course, thanks. The washers will be hardened approx 3/4" diameter and will not embed, they are standard items for other studs which do not have a reduced shaft so do not stretch much if at all.

    Welding around cartridge heaters

Hi, just a quick one- I am using cartridge heaters in a job for myself and due to awkward installation it may be necessary to weld around them. They are being inserted in thin wall aluminium tubes and require a cap welded on the end (opposite end to wires), due to the other end of the tube...

    Deburring Waterjet Cut Copper Sheet

I was under the impression that most places dont laser copper as they can damage the head by reflection or something along those lines!

    Deburring Waterjet Cut Copper Sheet

Hi, not sure if this is the right forum to have this in- but I have had some gaskets water jet cut from copper sheet, 0.5mm thick which has a left large burrs around the cuts on the rear (and a small lip on the front). What options do I have for deburring them- I have looked into the regular...
