    manually measured thread.. stupid question.

Well, I had only female threads available. The other piece was in use in our manufacturing dept. There was a production run going, so i had to wait for it to be taken apart and cleaned before I could get to it. Also, like I said in my original post, I didn't know whether I needed to call out...

    manually measured thread.. stupid question.

Yes, major and minor diameter for external and internal threads respectively. Thanks, I'll use the external thread major diameter.

    manually measured thread.. stupid question.

I've been asked to have some parts re-made.. But the old drawings have been lost in the abyss. So, I had to get out my thread gauge and micrometer/caliper. The question is: If i measure a male thread at 1-5/8"-12, and the female at 1-1/2"-12. What am I going to call out for the respective...

    What does this mean exactly

Thank you, that's what I thought. Sorry about the location of the post, I didn't have that one on my threadminder. I'll add it.

    What does this mean exactly

Quick question. I'm not sure what this individual is referring to exactly. Does the parallelism call-out apply to the length of the shaft? And does the flatness apply only the bottom face of the square piece? Thanks

    Cutting Polycarbonate/PEEK

Good afternoon all. I am trying to cut some polycarbonate and I have also tried cutting some PEEK because I have a high-temp application where my acrylic substrate just wont do. But when I cut it, I get severe discoloration. I have tried every combination I can think of to reduce the amount of...

Haha yep. Fun times ahead with the soldering iron!

    Press fit into nylon

I decided to use one if dodge's thermal installation techniques to do an insert. Talked to an applications engineer over there about it.

    Press fit into nylon

Dodge has some well detailed info.. I've found everything I need to finish designing the connection. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. -Dale

    Press fit into nylon

adhesive bonding for around the insert? Or an adhesive connection instead of a threaded connection. I need the parts to come apart because it is a universal handle.

    Press fit into nylon

I need to press fit a metal threaded insert into a piece of nylon. Does anyone have advice on how much interference would be adequate? I generalize by saying metal because I was thinking of using brass or steel.. is there another material that would be better suited for this application? It...

Simply supported pipe on a support - is this possible?

*edit* "Haven't" used ANSYS in a long while.

    National Pipe Thread

Thank you, Tex. During my research, I did read that somewhere as well (don't remember where). The parts shouldn't have to be disassembled--but in the even that they are, I will keep this in mind.

Simply supported pipe on a support - is this possible?

I've only used ANSYS in a long while--not since like ANSYS 5.1, but can't you get a solution by fixing just one end--as this will still allow it to be unconstrained axially? Take for example if there was some thermal expansion, the pipe still expands or contracts, it will just do so from one end.
