I should refer you both to a previous thread on this topic. There is quite a bit of misinformation and misunderstanding in this current thread.
API 6A TC vs. QTC

metengr,
Thanks for the link, I had seen the keytometals page on hydrogen in steels. My background is engineering for a wellhead equipment manufacturer. Naturally my question relates to hydrogen limits for steels used to make equipment for pumping down and flowing back, a well. Hydrogen...
Hello,
I am looking for information regarding acceptable allowances for hydrogen and nitrogen in low alloy steels such as 41XX, 43XX, or 86XX. There is quite a bit of information on how these atomic gases are introduced during the steelmaking process, and what effects they have on the quality...
salmon2,
A sacrificial production part is allowed to be used for extracting a TC but is not allowed for a QTC. A QTC must be extracted from a trepanned core or prolongation removed from the production part.
This would appear to be consistent with the elevated quality requirements of PSL2-PSL4...
Given the termperature you listed, the valve would fall into the "Y" temperature class of API 6A, which is 0F-650F.
I am not too familiar with geothermal wells but aren't those closed loop systems where you are simply exchanging heat with the large heat sink that is earth? Therefore, you...
You make good points, and sorry if I offended, it sounds like you have served committee time. Complaining and not being part of the solution, not very proactive of me.
Again, thanks for the help.

API 6A material classes are broken up in to two basic groups; general service and sour service. A sour service environment contains H2S. The 6A specification defers further definition of sour service to NACE MR0175.
Do you have exposure to H2S or will there be free Hydrogen?
redpicker,
I knew that is what those factors were for but am still dumbfounded as to why API doesn't simply explain that. I completely re-wrote those equations in terms of the taper angle and am getting the same values (with units!) as you would get just using a calculator. I am satisfied...
I have been trying to create a Mathcad worksheet using the formulas provided in this recommended practice, namely those formulas in Appendix A.8.
As with most API specifications, the formulas do not lend themselves to use in Mathcad if you wish to use a unit system. If you attempt this, and I...
I am looking at using AISI 1050 annealed for this component. The 10XX series steels are readily available and inexpensive due to lack of high cost alloying elements such as Ni, Cr, and Mo. The higher carbon content allows me to get the required mechanical properties in either the annealed or...
Your question is inclear. What are you trying to apply a load to? It sounds like you are trying to analyze the resultant forces on the belt mountings caused by the occupant being restrained.
A FBD would help if you could sketch and attach, you may even answer your own question by doing so.

I would drop the wire model and analyze a flat plate analog that has the same mechanical responses as the trays. As long as the stiffness and Poisson's ratio are the same as the real thing you should get fairly accurate results, worth a shot anyway. Compare the yield to the min yield of the...
CoryPad,
The loading is primarily torque (torsion), 0-2100RPM, and light to moderate shock loads. Assuming the sulfide stringers are oriented along the axis of the bar a torsion application would be loading perpendicular to those inclusions and thus not recommended based on fatigue failure...
