Look around for someone who has research projects that interest you. Since a large part of a PhD is research work the project you work on will greatly effect what you get out of the degree and how much you enjoy it.
"Theory of wing sections" by Abbott and Von Doenhoff has a graph with AOA vs section lift coef and moment coef; and another with section lift coef vs moment coef and section drag coef. For NACA 23015.
Just FYI. Many of the refs that have been discussed in this thread are available at Knovel.com. I don't know how much subscriptions are, but there is a lot of stuff there.
I am an aero structural engineer for NAVAIR. I can't tell you how easy it is to move into industry, I have never tried. There are great opportunities in NAVAIR, there are jobs in which you can learn a great deal and assume significant responsibility early on. There are also terrible jobs, I...
Not being a US citizen will eliminate you from consideration for many jobs in defense. I don't know how many may be open to you. I would suggest looking at European companies operating in the US. I know Eurocopter has operations in the US and that BAE does business with US companies. They...
I think I get the best of both worlds. My wife has an engineering degree, but doesn't work as an engineer. She understands the way I think (and often thinks the same way), but I get the same reaction as monkeydog if I give more than an overview answer to: "So what did you do today?"
Just check the aero program at any school and you will see something along the lines of 4 semesters of calculus, 3 semesters of physics, at least 1 semester of differential equations, and probably another math or 2. Most don't even count algebra and trig which must be understood to grasp the...
My wife stays home with our children, I have told people I wouldn't trade jobs with her on a bet, it's hard work. She loves it and wouldn't trade it for all the things we can't afford. As with other things often the ones that are harder to do are more rewarding.
I very seldom work overtime, but will if all heck breaks loose and I need to. If I work overtime I get paid at the same rate as strait time. There is no flexibility to come and go, so it's be here or on vacation.
