    Joining API X65 material to A350 LF2

Hi 6155, could you please shear a bit more on the issue on the welding? Hi Little inch, the design code AS2885 (piping code)

    Joining API X65 material to A350 LF2

Hi LittleInch, That's what I was thinking, increase the OD of the A350, so there is step from say 34 to 23 at the weld joint, looking from the outside. Should stress discontinuity/concetration a issue here?

    Joining API X65 material to A350 LF2

Dear Friends, I have a situation here at the joint of (pipe) DN850 API X65 PLS2 pipe to (closure) A350 LF 2 Class 1. The design pressure if 10.2 Mpa 65C, Pipe thickness used is 23mm. which is adequate for the pressure for the strength of X65 pipe. At the joint, the closure hub would be...

Hydro test of U or L shaped pipe spools

Hi XL83NL, Gretins. Good feeling someone remembers me. Pipe size from Dn25 to 80, pressure ranging from 2000-8000kpa operational,so hydro testing at 1.5 of that. On site there will be pipe supports to hold the pressure thrust forces due to bends. Where our in-house hydro there is nothing...

Hydro test of U or L shaped pipe spools

Hi All, we are about to hydro test some pipe spool, U shaped and L shaped. My concerning is once pipe is blanked off at ends and pressurized, the U shape or/and L shape will tend to straighten itself. Could anyone please share some idea on this? should be this be a concern? if so, any idea on...

Pressure Thrust in PV Elite and FEA

It depends, If your nozzle, for example is attached with blind flange, the there will be a full pressure thrust acting on the nozzle away from the shell. If your nozzle, for example is connected to solid piping with solid anchor. Then there is no pressure thrust on to your nozzle.

    Lateral load on cylinder

I couldn't seems to find a case in Roark's, could anyone suggest the case number? robyengIT , your attached is very similar to my case, but I could figure out how to use your attachment? I think it is a different case as to a external pressurerised pressure vessel, as in my case the load is...

    Lateral load on cylinder

Hi All I have a cylinder ( OD, thickness and width known), as shown, is supported at half way, lateral force F1 and F2, say F1=F2. Would someone advise on some reference on how to find out the max bending moment at the support plane? so I can find out the max bending stress, hence determine...

Question on how to determine rubber backing plate thickness

Hi All, Simplified situation, A piece of straight rubber block/strip, say 150mm (Lr) long by 30mm (Wr) wide. 30mm (Tr) thick, on top of it a steel plate os same size, 150mm (Ls) long, by 30mm (Ws)wide, its thickness (Ts) is to be determined. Force f1 and f2, action on the edge of steel...

    Reinforced pad split into half?

sometime you have no option but have to split the pad just in order to install them. but make sure your split line is perpendicular to the shall longitudinal axis, and have a weephole on each split of the pad, and you may want to do bubble test on each split.

2017 ASME Viii Div 1 Appendix 1-10 removed now use Div 2, but which allowable?

Hi All, Since appendix 1-10 has now been removed from the 2107 edition of the Div code, we now go to use Div 2 part 4.5 for larger nozzles (ratio greater then 0.7 to 1). Which material allowable stress shall we use now , Div 1? Div 2? Vessel design code is Div 1. Thank you

Why is turbine Blade made by casting?

Hi All, I was reading somewhere mentioned most turbine blade is made by casting? Made me thinking, why not forged or machined from block? I won't think cost is the reason for such high end product. My limited understanding is that investment casting generally is not as good as forged product...

    Unity check for pin connection?

So in that case, Von Mises here, would only have tensile stress σx and shear τxy ? I trying to understand why should bearing stress not to be considered here when combine all stresses?

    Unity check for pin connection?

Hi, Thanks for all the useful replies, I don't recall ASME BTH do a unity check for tensile, shear and bearing, (so doesn't AISC). I now think maybe I am being over conservative. Rotation is not a concern here, there are actually one row of 3 holes, I am dividing the load by the number of...
