    Freelance Design

I was layed off last Friday. I have been in the fire protection business for the past 18 years. I am thinking about starting my own freelance design company. I am NICET IV in water based and level 1 in special hazards. Anyone else out there start their own design company?

We are bidding on a project that has two areas that are going to have grain silos in them. One of them is 150'-0" tall and the other 85'. I have never done a bulk storage application like this and am trying to figure out the requirements for fire protection. Can someone point me in the right...

AS Hydraulic cals for Large DC's

I always run calcs on all systems in the building. If the systems are the same I will reuse the same nodes and just change the footage of bulk pipe as needed. I have a project that is a tenant finish out. The building is fully sprinklered with a portion already having a tenant in it. The existing tenant is a doctor's office/outpatient clinic. The space that we are finishing out is going to be the same occupancy. They are going to put a glass "wall"...

13r and taking the increases per ibc

I have a project that consists of one three story apartment building. On the building code sheet it looks as though they took some increases for a sprinklered building. My question is if they took the allowences can you still do a 13R system or does it have to be a full 13?

Removal of existing upright sprinklers located in non-combustible concealed space above ceiling

The only instance where I could see you needing heads above is if they can store things above the ceiling or introduce combutibles some way.

    Chemical dip tanks

I have a project that has some chemical dip tanks. The owner does not want us to put sprinklers over the area where the tanks are. What standard do I need to look at to find an alternative. The facility is 60,000 sq ft with the tanks covering around 4000 sq ft. Thank you for your help.
