Hello all,
We are in the beginning stages of doing a project in Germany (structural steel and concrete) and this will be my first foray into using the structural Eurocodes and Annexes. I am very familiar with North American codes, but not well versed in the Eurocodes.
Does anyone have any...
I will investigate the use of a vertical pump. The pump has not been purchased yet, we are still in the feasibility stage. Thank you for all your help!
Please see the attached proposed pump location(s) as requested.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=5a460682-1b14-47d7-b43d-f5daeb175fa5&file=Untitled.pdf
I wanted to provide a few more details to see if this sheds a bit more light -
We are looking at a couple different locations for the pump, one where the pump would be centered on a large 14" x 34" concrete girder (running parallel to the girder span) and the other where the pump runs over top...
Hello!
I have been tasked with investigating the feasibility of installing a new pump (and concrete pump base) on a suspended slab operating floor. The pump is 600HP and the suspended slab is only 6" thick supported by concrete beams.
I was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on any...
Some great discussion on this! Thank for all your help.
To respond to some of the inquiries - the pier is about 1'-4" up from the slab on grade so if we went with rods tied into the side of the pier, they would likely need to pass through the fill. This is a process area, so there may be some...
KootK,
There are braces (both planes) that deliver the shear and uplift to the piers.
MacGruber22,
Thanks for the advice, I will be sure to get in touch with a specialist if we go that route. It definitely does sound like a lot of work, our client is concerned with schedule more so than...
Thanks for all your input.
We have contacted an FRP specialist and have been told that is has been done before. We are still looking at other options however.
The challenge I see with encasing the existing concrete, is predicting how the shear and tension failure cones will behave between...
Thanks KootK,
The piers themselves fail in breakout under both tension and shear (based on anchor rod edge distance). I'm a bit unclear about what you are suggesting, could you please elaborate. I have provided a quick sketch for information (NTS).
We want to do the reinforcement without...
Hello,
Does anyone have any insight into practical methods to increase pier anchorage capacity?
We have a situation where there is an existing frame that supported a vessel that was laterally supported at the top. Now our client wants to replace the vessel with another one (using the same...
Hello!
I was hoping someone may be able to provide some insight or resources for the following:
Looking to design a large tank mass foundation that is founded on bedrock. The foundation is approximately 50'x50'x23' deep (square), with soil restraining the foundation on all sides up to grade...
Sorry for not saying what the footing is supporting. Its supporting a column for a small pre-engineered building. The column is fairly lighty loaded - mostly wind load.
The client has elected to demo the existing footing and install a new one as originally planned.
Thanks for your assistance!
Unfortunately there is not much information available in regards to concrete strength or reinforcement. It appears to be part of a strip footing. If we were to use it the new pier would intersect at the edge of the strip, therefore we would likely need to pour a new portion of the footing that...
