update on my read only problem:
In Windows, as a regular user, I was not able to delete files or copy files to that drive because everything was in the root directory of the drive (some sort of NTFS property). I created a new Drawings directory in that drive and cut and pasted everything in...
all our work is opened and saved over the network, to one directory. There are only 2 1/2 people here who work on CAD (one is a part timer) so there are no issues with people working on the same files or need for much file management. Unless there are benefits to it that we don't know about.
like beachcomber said, hover the mouse pointer over the overlapping elements without clicking. A box will appear and list all the elements whithin reach, scroll down the list until the element you want is highlighted.
I didn't use insight, not sure if that comes free or if it's paid option since we've never used it. I did a copy and paste of the entire directory (over the network) into a fresh/empty drive (local). The weird thing is that not all the drawings come up as read only, only some. When I look at...
from some of the summits/users meetings I've attended, it seems that msot people wait until the 2nd patch release to isntall new versions of solid edge.
We're upgrading from version 15. I've installed version 19 on an offline PC so that we can spend some time to check it before fully...
beachcomber, your interpretation is correct. We make most of our 2D drawings from views of the assemblies. Obviously, when the drawing is only of a part or a sub-assembly, then we only use their models and not a model from an entire assembly. however, in the test mentioned above, the drawing...
now that I think about it, we've also been having a problem with the explode feature. Every time we try to explode an assembly, instead of just pulling the sub assemblies appart, it explodes every fricking component apart. I wonder is this is somehow related.
using a Windows 2000 server, raid 1
OK, we hooked up a packet sniffer between my pc and the sesrver and basically, when I open a 2D drawing, solid edge is opening every assembly and subassembly linked to that drawing, down to individual parts like bolts and screws. So for instance, a 6MB 2D...
We are currently having problems with the amount of time it takes to open, save, close, even minimize and maximize files (literally minutes for moderately sized files). This is a problem that has been here since I've been here. Up to this point it had been thought that our hardware...
Donyoung - Can you tell me more about OpenSave like what it does?
Pellaken - Why does the HD speed affect it in that manner? Just trying to understand since I assumed drawings load into RAM and not directly to the HD. Also, does the rest of the set up look OK?
Thanks in advance
I have been having problems with Solid Edge being ridiculously slow at opening, closing, minimizing and maximizing some what complicated files. I have eliminated the network by saving several files directly to my hard drive, same results. I have upgraded my video card to one recommended on the...
