In SVC Thyristor Switched Capacitor TSC but not Controlled Capacitor?

Hi, As you know the Static Var Compensator SVC consists of branches TCR, TSC and Filters. Can anyone give explanation why we can't do a smooth controlling in capacitors instead of fully conducting or fully off? Thank you SMB

Using Open Circuit Supervision "95" for REF

Hi everyone, I understand the application of CT Open Circuit supervision in High Impedance Busbar protection. Could you please explain why we don't use it in High Impedance REF scheme. thank you,

Problem with Double Wye Capacitor Unbalance Protection

the attached paper explain in detail the unbalance protection in different cap. bank. please seehttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=16cc810f-cf60-436f-aac3-1bea8b6caab9&file=shunt_Capacitor_Fundamintal_and_Protection.pdf

Problem with Double Wye Capacitor Unbalance Protection

thank you all, busbar: yeas (blown fuse = open fuse) Stevenal: i like the idea of delaying the 59N some time till the faulty feeder protection operate, is it usual practice? LionelHutz: shorted capacitor section will not cause voltage stress on other unit. I think we are taking about open...

Problem with Double Wye Capacitor Unbalance Protection

Thank you Marmite, I agree with you. Usually we set the unbalance protection based on manufacturer unbalance calaculation which shows how much voltage will increase in other capacitor units. the setting of the unbalance protection is set based on that calculation. So, the objective is not...

Problem with Double Wye Capacitor Unbalance Protection

But CT in the neutral can not detect identical fuse blown in both sides of the same phase.

Problem with Double Wye Capacitor Unbalance Protection

thank you LionelHutz, yes, the VT is connected from the neutral point to ground. the problem is what you sid. the netral point is shift due to any unbalance in the system which causes the relay 59N to operate. So, what is the correct application of this type of protection?

Problem with Double Wye Capacitor Unbalance Protection

Dear All, I am talking about Double Wye ungrounded Capacitor Unbalance protection using Neutral CT and neutral VT as explained in IEEE C37.99-2000 section 8.2.6.2. i have 13.8KV capacitor bank double way ungrounded and both unbalance protection approches are used: CT approach: CT will be...

    Transfer Trip Required?

Hi everyone, it is needed in your case if the generation is from downstream. i.e if the fault in the 13.8 feeder thw two ends will be feeding the fault. thank you

    Trip coil supervision

Yes, you have to have three 74/TC trip coil supervision.

    Under Voltage Protection

Hi, usually 27 relay operates with time delay to avoide any operation during loss of PT or transient voltage dip. to detect loss of PT, FFR fuse failure relay (98) is installed. this relay compare two voltages from two PT secondary windings. if your 27 relay is numerical there is a feature to...
