Reducers and enlargers on Up/Down stream of pumps

Thank you for all posts. I know, in the world of piping we only have "reducer", but in the book I (as a process engineer) used enlarger whenever I wanted to refer to usage of reducer to enlarge the pipe diameter. By the way I am Moe Toghraei, Shahyar is my middle name.

    high pH in RO water

Did you check your alkalinity of the feed? If alkalinity drops, the pH of permeate will drop too.

Sweep air in liquid sulfur storage tanks

Hi, You need to "assume" that a percentage of H2S is emitted to the vapor space, then calculate the required sweeping air. This "percentage is a function of temperature and the level of agitation in your tank. It could be a number from 20% to 40,50%. Hope this help.

    Demineralisation chain

I am with "itsmoked". Sudden increase in pressure drop generally is associated with mechanical damage inside. One common breakage happens in the distributor.

IGF designing for oily water treatment

You want to design or you want to specify?

Control valve at the suction of centrifugal compressor

Hi Hosein, My idea is that two control valves of PV-149 and FV-139 works together to control the compressor. They may work on override concept, the normal loop can be through PV-149 (which is more economical control option) and the override loop is handled by FV-139 when there is not enough...

Cation & Anion Exchanger Design Capacity

Hi, 1. The water analysis is a way off: (136.4-92.5)/(136.4+92.5)*100 = 19% This should be less than 5 or 10% (I don't remember off top of my head) This is what I always check at the beginning of a design. 2. Such writing is wrong: 92.5 ppm CaCO3 - 4.02 meq/L as Na ppm as CaCO3 or meq/L does...

Liquid Safety Valves and Hydraulic Surge

Chattering may happen because of different reasons including high pressure drop of inlet connecting pipe of a PSV. Hydraulic surge is definitely detrimental for conventional PSV's, that is the reason there are specific PSV's in the market for this purpose:"Surge pressure safety valves". However...

Two process refrigeration systems working together controls?

Hi, I am not familiar with refrigeration system but one word of caution is: Be careful that centrifugal compressors don't operate in parallel with PD compressors. There are bunch of problems if they do. Shayar

    ON LINE CONTINUOUS pH CONTROL

Hi, The process design and process control is decided based on the range of ph change in the wastewater and the required acceptable range of ph after adjustment. But generally speaking the in-line ph adjustment is not a good idea unless the ph swinging of the wasterwater is low and at the same...

Cation & Anion Exchanger Design Capacity

Hi, First of all, the water analysis is not very accurate. In an ideally accurate water analysis: ppm cations in CaCO3 = ppm anions in CaCO3 I din't bother to check all your calc but your conversion from ppm CaCO3 to meq/L seems wrong. 92.5 ppm CaCO3/ 50 = 1.85 meq/(L as Na)...

DISSOLVED GAS FLOATATION (DGF) INLET FLOW CONTROL

I have designed plenty of gas flotations with gravity flow. It is not a good idea to put control valve in the inlet of DGF, it will break your oil globules. We generally put control valve far upstream or downstream. We also adjust the level of DGF. Hope this help

    PVRV and breather vent

What is the difference between PVRV and breather vent? -They are the same What is their respective application? -Both of them for non-pressure containers What should be set point of breather vent if tank datasheet read design pressure as "ATM" (no value provided) -Is that possible? it mean the...

    Tank Blanket Gas Requirement

Using API2000 for calculation of required blanket gas is too conservative. The respective API committee clearly prevented the designers from using API 2000 for that purpose( I have the document but it is not handy now). API2000 is standard to size "safety" devices. Hope this help
