Speedy,
Viton is not recommended for steam applications. Fluoronated elastomers do not like water or steam! Your best choice for an o-ring rubber compound is EPDM for applications under 300F and then Aflas for applications from 300F to 450F. You can get both in 70 and 90 durometer. Aflas is...
You can not use metal contact seaLS for dynamic applications, they will not work. You best bet is a spring loaded PTFE seal that incorporates a hard plastic backup ring, eg., PEEK. I have used these seals in high pressure linear applications successfully. Just make sure that when designing...
Most people use a mechanical packing enclosed in an adjustable stuffing box to seal this type of shaft. Newer desigs use a spring loaded PTFE seal as they do not need adjustment and will last muxh longer than a rubber seal.
I am looking for a US manufacturer that will injection mold two low volume Santoprene parts. Need a single cavity tool and parts pricing 0n 10, 250, 500, 1000 and 2500 pieces.
Any help in locating a manufacturer that does not mind doing th1s kind of volume would be greatly appreciated...

O-rings are not defined as closed cell or open cell as is sponge rubber . You need to decide what elastomer is proper for your application, eg., Nitrile, FKM (DuPont Viton), Silicone etc. Call a Parker o-ring distributor or go their web site, www.parker.com, they will have a distributor finder...
PTFE can be compression molded and FEP, PFA, PCTFE can be injection molded (melt prossible). No other plastics, that I know of have better low temperature properties.
Choose your rubber by the requirements of the application, ie, temperature, pressure, media to be sealed and wear resistance. No rubber out of the box is going to give you good frictional properties. If you are using an o-ring, there are manufacturers that have internally lubricated compounds...
If there is no pressuure in your application and you need a metal canned seal for a press fit design you can use a linear oil seal. It shold have two or three lips to keep the oil in and the dirt out.
If there is pressure in the design you can use a rubber wiper that is similar to a u-cup but...
Hello,
I need to insert an in line oil filter before an EGR Valve. I currently have a Parker 6 C50X 90 degree straight thread (0-ring) elbow that screws into the valve body and attaches to a 3/8 tube. My customer wants to insert a screen into the fitting but I am afraid that the screen will...
Sir,
I am afraid that you are stuck with o-rings or maybe x-rings. It is almost impossible to use a spring energized PTFE seal as a plug seal due to installation issues. They are unidirectional seals as well and you will need two seals for every 0-ring that you replace. They also can not pass...
Hello,
Does anyone have experience with preventing explosive decompression in static o-ring seals. Pressure ranges from 900 PSI to 5600 PSI. Media is natural gas and sometimes sour gas. Any suggestions for elastomers and manufacturers?
Thanks
You add conductive fillers to the rubber. For example, silver, silver plated copper, silver plated aluminum, silver plated glass or graphite.
Hope this helps.
