jmw is right flow is not a limiting factor for the gauge to accurately measure density.
OhmartVega has a wide range of online density gauges.

I am trying to find an estimated density of coke when it builds up in FCC lines. There are lots of references to bulk and piled coke densities but none I've seen for buildup.
Thanks

In addition to my previous post. Other than in the base of the slugcatcher, has anyone experienced significant build up in other sections? separation section, intermediate section or receiving section fingers.
Thanks

I have been asked if our company can determine a sludge level in a Slug Catcher. This is a new area for us and we wish to make a better informed descision. The enquiring contact has little info on the subject.
What I need to know is... What is the typical composition of sludge found in the base...
What is the typical composition of sludge found in a slug catcher? And has anybody had any experience in determining the amount of build up for cleaning preparation?
Thanks

The change in DP is also dependant on the type and extent of tray damage. If you have missing and damaged valves but are operating at high rates your DP may not change as these valves would be running full open normally. If youu have more physical damage such as manway covers or tray panels...
Has this always been a problem or something that has been slowly getting worse? If it is been geeting worse with time your tower may be fouled up with sulfur causing your tower to flood prematurely. If it was always a problem then maybe your tower needs to be redesigned for capacity. We have a...
These guys have some pretty awesome techniques for pipe isolation, their called Car-Ber Testing. They may have more suggestions and have offices all over.

Also because the butterfly valves were difficult to open and close it made dumping part IBC's to a specific weight near impossible and a bit more than messsy.
I worked for a company making tungsten carbide. We used IBC's with butterfly valves. If the powder was was at all sticky as many are, the valve only compounded the problem. The valves were also extremely difficult to open and close manually.

If monitoring this level is of great enough urgence, you may want to consider external gauges such as nucleonics. However this may be cost prohibitive based on the level of importance.
