    Small gearbox needed

insideman: Thanks and that's very clever, but it won't do for my particular application israelkk: You're right, I wasn't very specific, but that's because what I am looking for is a company that sells small gearboxes off the shelf. If it was within my budget to get a custom one I would have...

    Small gearbox needed

I'm looking for a very small worm gearbox, preferably less than 1" by 1" (the thickness doesn't matter much). I've already looked on globalspec and thomasnet with less than promising results. I was wondering if anyone here knew of a specific company that manufactured gearboxes this size or...

    Small Slip Ring

Yeah, I tried it on my home computer and it worked. It seems to matter what your internet connection/network is. Oh well, I don't really have time to solve another company's problems. Thanks for all your help lumenharold! -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Small Slip Ring

lumenharold, thanks but that page doesn't load. I think I found this company a couple of days ago on globalspec and had the same problem. -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Small Slip Ring

I'm looking for a "slip ring" or rotating electrical connector for use in a robot. It has to be pretty small, ideally no more than 0.25" in diameter and 0.5" in length. I've already looked at McMaster Carr, GlobalSpec, Grainger and ThomasNet and have yet to find one that meets my specs. Does...

Yeah, it works great. Thanks a lot. -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Materials Database

CorBlimeyLimey and ctopher: That's funny, I looked some more on my own after I posted and found that exact site. However, you have to pay for the ability to export their data to Solidworks. I was kinda hoping to find something for free. -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Materials Database

Does anyone know where I can find a readymade materials database for Solidworks? It would be a lot easier than making my own with the clunky interface they already have. -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Flexible drive shafts

I'm thinking about using a flexible drive shaft in a design, but I'm worried about backlash. I'm going to need to know the orientation of the end effector to a good degree of precision. It seems to me like such a shaft would have some pretty big backlash problems in such an application. I've...

    Free standing entity in SimMechanics?

Is it possible to model a free standing entity in SimMechanics (ie. a robot with 4 wheels)? If so, what joints would you use to "ground" the model or how would you otherwise simulate the robot's interaction with the ground? It needs to roll around, so the friction between the wheels and ground...

    Timing Pulley Efficiency?

Is there a good way to calculate the efficiency of a timing pulley setup without having to put it together? -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Plot x^2+y^2+xy+x+y=0 ?

    Simulation question

I'm trying to make a simulation for a wheeled robot and how it will interact with different obstacles. Can anyone recommend some simulink add-ins? My boss is also pretty cheap so I'll probably have to stick to absolute neccesities. -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Plot x^2+y^2+xy+x+y=0 ?

briglass, this looks suspiciously like a homework problem. -Sam Boyce Asst. Mechanical Engineer www.AppleAid.com

    Simulation question

tgeorge: You might try looking at the optimization tool box for your curve fitting needs. From what I hear it is very robust. As far as your distributions question, MATLAB certainly has the capabilitiy to generate random numbers in a gaussian distribution. I'm not sure about the others...
