I am trying to determine the Hoop stress between a thin walled stainless steel tube shrunk fit into a thick walled inconel nozzle. I found a formula to use if you are shinking thick wall into thick wall but it doesn't work mixing thin walled into thick walled. Any ideas?
Our project requires testing worse case. In this case, that means locking up 4 cast iron wheels (10,000 lb load per wheel)then dragging them fully loaded on the 17-4pH rail they normally roll on. Does anyone know friction coefficients between cast iron and an age hardened martensitic stailess...
A little more clarification. The 17-4 has to be seal welded all along the top of the I beam. Maybe we could stitch weld the bar onto the I beam then come back and seal weld between the stitches. The stitch welding would take care of calculated seismic forces and the smaller seal welding would...
Current design has a 2"x2"x200"long bar of 17-4 pH welded to top of SS304 I beam. If we skip welded or spot welded, would the difference in heat shrinkage still cause warpage beween the 2 materials? If so, any solutions? The 17-4 is for 2 rails holding 2 wheels each at 10,000...
The application for a stepper motor includes the expected torque output of approximately 142 in-ozs. What we have measure is approximately 1/2 of expected torque output at the output shaft. Expected torque output of the gearbox (100:1 planitary gearbox, 85% efficient) should be (142 x 100)/16) x...
I purchased a book, "Introduction to Matlab 6 for Engineers". I have no experience writing code and I'm blind as a bat working on the problems from Chapter 3 on. I am looking for some help. If I could get someone to do several poblems showing several different applications it would be...
