ok..maybe no pictures until I can figure out how to post them correctly.
Before I post the attachment has the full name with the extension (.jpg/.bmp/.pdf) but once it gets posted it just says pic?? I may have to post pictures through a third party picture hosting site which I cannot do right...
.bmp and .pdf files seem to not be working, here is a try with a .jpg file, if this doesn't work I don't know what else to try.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=989d30dd-2339-467a-a459-c9a7eeb75cb2&file=Pic#1-R1.jpg
I should have posted pics the first time, they may paint a better picture...here is the first of four.
Note, all vertical bracing shown is only temporary.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e771cf84-4725-4956-bce1-d647b64fe8ee&file=Pic#1-R1.bmp
I do not have a copy of NDS.
The reason for the steel section is for aesthetic purposes only.
One side note is that I am not the engineer responsible for this design, it is something that has been built already and it looked a little suspect to me so I just wanted to run some numbers to...
Looks like only one .pdf got attached...here is the other view.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=bcfdf01d-6e03-4342-8220-e05fc3498955&file=LookingNorth.PDF
I work mainly in the structural steel world so the steel analysis of the attached sketches is not a problem, when it comes to the interaction with the wood is where I get a bit confused.
I believe my main concern with this connection would be the bolts ripping/tearing out of the wood, (as long...
AISC is in the process of writing a rev. 3, I called and spoke with them about it a few weeks ago and it didn't sound like it would be available until next year sometime. (maybe not until September if I recall correctly)
Also, I was not able to get a copy of rev. two and was told it was not...
Lately prices for our steel orders which include fabrication and galvanizing have been coming in at right around $3/lb, some a little under some a little above, this is for orders around 6 tons.
Thanks for the quick replies, I was figuring it had to do with the buildings being designed with pinned connections at the base but didn't know if that was the main reason, which from what it sounds like, it is.
StructuralEIT, interesting to know that they are pinned at mid-span of the beam...
I've always wondered why when I see a new building under construction (usually a prefabricated type building) the columns are wider at the top than at the base.
Just curious.
Thanks.
What is the difference between these two galvanizing specs, the only thing I've found so far is that 153 is used for smaller pieces of material such as fasteners etc.., but what is the actuall difference in the specs??
Nothing really abnormal in the design, I do agree with Elindio about "Wind Loads and Anchor Bolt Design for Petrochemical Facilities", great referance, and fairly inexpensive ($30 US)
The size and configuration of your rack will be determined by the size/elevation of your steam line, also give...
