suggest a turned down edge or pocket for post with a U bar around post into slab and adequate cover...concrete usually fails by cracking edge off slab caused by corrosion of post. Use caulk around post base to keep away water and salts.....never happens!
small? 1" differential movement??
existing soil conditions have 3"-6" movement but will remove and replace top 5' CH layer and have a 1" PVR which I have seen in some other literature and assume thats teh best you can hope for down there without big expense.

what is typical design for expansive clays in light loaded commercial facility...I assume integral gradebeams and slab. Any suggestion for design guide...PT not in the budget or design scope, only rebar. Building is about 100' square with a couple column loads and ligh bearing wall line load...
after some thought, it is simply a compression ring and the compressive stress is very small on concrete walls. Tip design is most critical as the cutting shoe must be durable and not shear off and take ring compression as well as ring tension when the plug is made. Then the bouyancy after the...
Analyze this! I bought a flagpole for MIL for Christmas. They said put 10% of the length in the ground in a hole the same dimension in width and fill with concrete (cuz that's what the directions say). I bought a 20 foot pole with a 3'x5' flag, so I'm using a 2'diameter by 2' deep hole with...
Is there such a spreadsheet? Don't need a CAD program or survey program. More like a math program. We did area calcs by hand in school....somehow by putting in angles and distances.
Here's a better one, http://www.vbdesign.net/expresso/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3588
just wish I was a programmer. Barely remember my Fortran 77!
Can I list my points px and py in a spreadsheet, then have this sub read and calculate the area? Since my points are generated by angles and...

Obviously, it wouldn't be prudent to build a 200,000 gallon water tank on unreinforced pedastals in my opinion!
On the other hand, I do not see where it says "pedastals" have to be reinforced at all, only 0.005Ag across the "interface between pedastal and footing".

We use Synkoflex on existing (old) prepared concrete and PVC serrated on all new concrete at all treatment plant projects. Haven't used bentonite materials for years.
This is a waste of time to me but I have to resolve this question forced upon me by a Contractor's interpretation of ACI 318.
This concerns 46 inch square "pedastals" for a six legged water tank structure.
My interpretation: Use ACI 318 -10.8.4 and 10.9.1 for compression members and...
Thanks for the tips. I understand the basics. We're replacing a line strung down the middle of the building. In one case, I think were stuck with a cable because we have a very high arched truss for the hangar and no lateral bracing other than more cables.
In the second hangar, we have a...
