    Section 1 Bolting

I am attempting a boiler repair requiring bolts holding together a category H fitting designed to Section I.

    Section I Bolting, take 2

Where are allowable stresses found for Section I bolting materials? Table 3, Section II part D does not appear to include Section I.

    B31.3 Plate Shell

Yes I have read A672 in detail. There are other issues besides the long seam such as flaw detection. What you are saying seems obvious but some customers want proof from the code. I have located the Code Interpretation 8-36 where the code committee addressed exactly this issue and endorsed the...

    B31.3 Plate Shell

I heard the code interpretation is 1990 vintage. Anyone have it? (rolled shells from plate) Rick

    B31.3 Plate Shell

yes while this seems logical, I need something more concrete. I heard of a code intrepretation on the matter, do you know of it? Rick

    B31.3 Plate Shell

does B31.3 allow the designer to use A 516-70 as a rolled plate shell without complying to ASTM A 672? the stress tables show pipe A 516-70 Spec A672 and then another listing for plate A 516-70. is the plate reference used only as flat plate?

    5Cr Alloys

I would generally like to hear about where 5Cr alloys are being applied. Also what differentiates the use of 3,5,9 Cr., other than allowable stress at design temp. Thanks, Rick

    HF Acid Service

    1) Does ASME Section VIII Div 1 have requirements depending on the type of process fluid or gas? 2) Specifically, does a fitting designed for HF acid require PWHT? Thanks, Rick

    Pin Connected Member

Aggman: Are you interpreting D3 to apply to the design of the pin connected member with a hole, but not actually to the bearing stress of the hole......and J8 applies to the design of the pin and hole? This is the same opinion as the consultant. If that's true D3 really throws me off because...

    Pin Connected Member

I am having a difference in interpretation with a consultant. Please let me know what you think. This is my side: AISC Manual of steel construction, 9th Edition. Section D3: 0.45Fy applies in determining the hole diameter and plate thickness related to bearing load at the pin hole & (J8) 0.90...
