Talk about something which makes you feel old...

I've got a Pentium I, 60 MHz clock/16 MB RAM (complete with floating decimal point error)that should make this list. That thing was a pariah when it was brand new!

    MPEG2 or MPEG4 H.264 encoding is better

In general, the difference between MPEG2, MJPEG, & H.264 is indicated by video compression methodologies. For example, MJPEG requires hefty bandwidth resource to transmit video, but is lean on the requisite 'decoding' resources. H.264 is a much more efficient transmission method that uses a...

    Chirp detection for synchronization

You're right. Now on to the next thread where we complain about how the younger engineers today just can't cut the mustard compared with our generation.

    Chirp detection for synchronization

Engineers: a professional group composed of folks with the God-given ability to make you feel like a bastard for asking them a question.

setting up a telecommunications network for company

In the words of those who came before: 'It's hard to cram 20 pounds of crap into a 2 pound bag...' I think your overly ambitious performance requirements given the transmission methods you specify make this one an ugly baby.

Just whining, nothing to see here.

Paint is Fading Looking for Test

Organic pigments will fade and oxidize must more quickly in direct sunlight than inorganic pigments. Confirm with the paint/coating manufacturer than an inorganic black is being specified. Also, if your aggregate material is Al, make sure that a zinc binder or cobalt drier ingredient in the...

    Automotive Component Design Codes

It was after some contemplation I place this question here in the 'other topics' forum. I am not sure if it better belongs in another place... Speaking in generalities, I've been approached by an acquaintance to help with the concept & design of a mechanism intended to lock wheels on a...

    RTV Shelf Life

That is a nasty secret about '1-part' compounds. They are in effect, always reacting (and curing). In the example of the RTV, that reaction is significantly accelerated by the presence of moisture. However, even in a 'sealed' contained that reaction is occuring. The container plays a...

    RTV Shelf Life

By what method are you extending shelf life? Acetoxy silicones are continually engaged in crosslinking and curing, even in a sealed tube. Perhaps the RTV159 requires less catalyst to cure.

    RTV Shelf Life

I believe that most if not all 1-part RTV silicones are moisture cure. Packaging, then, become a significant contributor to shelf life. Container gas permability, humidity infiltration, and the ability to reseal and evacuate moisture after a token use all impact subsequent reuse and shelflife.

EPC vs OEM = Superficial Engineering vs Real Engineering?

If the company is worth working for, they'll simply hire the best engineer for the job. Talent scouting is more difficult than snap judgements.

    Why Gold? It's useless!!

In Occupied France during the 1940's, those who sold women's cosmetics enjoyed income while other 'affordable luxuries' went unpurchased.

Educated" opinions on climate change - Part 4

@ SomptingGuy My response is in reply to data that reflects atmospheric change. Short of making my head implode due to nested root cause, I'm not sure that your 'of course' comment is applicable...

Educated" opinions on climate change - Part 4

There are 6 billion +plus human beings walking the earth today. 500 years ago, there were 500 million people walking the earth. In 1960, that number had increased to 2.97 billion. From 1960 to now, the delta is at least 3.1 B people. Of course there is going to be atmospheric differences...
