A recent project involves a PD pump pumping liquids to multiple locations, and individual flows to the locations are supposed to be evenly distributed. To evenly distribute the flow, control valves are installed on individual lines, and the pump is equiped with VFD on discharge pressure control...
Yes,Morten, it's a horrizontal vessel.
Chemjock,
FKOD's are normally sized to remove 300~600 micron droplets, and enough vapor space will do. Flare stacks can normally handle the small droplets without problem. What does the residence time has to do with the settling of liquids and vapor?
Hello,
In my previous FKOD sizing experience, I didn't need to consider the liquid residence time, even the API recommended sizing method does not mention the liquid residence time requirements. In a recent heavy oil job, the FKOD is required to have 20 minutes residence time, is this normal...
For a 40 hp motor with 1.15 service factor, when the motor starts to pull high amps like 52 amps, what would be the horsepower being consumed? Is it still under 40 hp like 38 hp, or it is already higher than 40 hp like 45 hp?
Thank you MTChE for your response.
The design pressure of the reboiler is 15 Psig, and the PSV is set at 15 Psig too. Is that not normal based on your 5 psi statement?
"these glycol reboilers are generally not code vessels and cannot handle more than 5 psi" - Can this justify that the fire case...
Hello,
Has anyone sized a PSV on the glycol regen reboiler? What would be case here?
Rich glycol from the flash drum level control valve goes to the still column that opens to atmosphere with packing inside. The rich glycol going into the reboiler is heated by the directly fired firetube, and...
I thank everyone for your valuable input.
What exactly is the definition of flashing here? Think about the following two cases:
1) Dehy contactor level control valve: some dissolved gas flashes out from the glycol downstream of the valve.
2) Refrigeration chiller level control valve: propane...
Jimcasey,
When you say effective dp, is that allowable dp used for sizing?
If P1=150 psig, p2 needs to be 10 psig (process requirements). However, the allowable dp is only 20 psi. Then 20 psi is used to size the valve, say, passing the total flow at 70% opening. So, the valve will be 70% open...
Hello,
What would be the proper methodology for sizing a control valve with liquids flashing downstream?
Fisher recommends allowable pressure drop method that results in a larger valve than using actual pressure drop. The question is, how can I get the required pressure drop if the much lower...
If I understand correctly, you need 2 control valves: one is on the shell inlet line controling the tube outlet gas temperature, and the other one is on the shell condensate outlet controling the level to maintain certain pressure.
Hello,
For a separator liquid outlet, what are the pros and cons by using a pump against a blowcase? Speciacally, will this choice affect the slug capacity required for the separator? Thanks.
Milton,
There is no SRU present. It is just a flare for a wellsite PSV's, Blowdowns...
JLSeagull,
Yeah, you are right. Incinerator is definately an option.
David,
You've got a good website and lots of useful information there.
I did the modeling basically using EPA screen3 method. 55% heat is...
Hello,
After SO2 dispersion modeling, the flare stack has to be 500 ft to meet the regulations, in addition to adding fuel gas, what are the other options? If adding fuel gas, how to operate? Thanks.
