NaCl Crystallization in Refrigeration CaCl2 Brine

Yes the chemistry is complex..........part of the reason I am having trouble finding the information without doing a bunch of testing ourselves. The max solubility of other salts is not specifically spelled out in the literature.

NaCl Crystallization in Refrigeration CaCl2 Brine

Hello! Our site employs calcium chloride as a secondary refrigerant that is circulated through several heat exchangers for ground freezing. We have developed an crystallization problem and confirmed with our brine supplier that they have had elevated sodium chloride levels in the brine that we...

    Dumb PSV Question

Hi George. Where in Perry's did you find the information about magnesium impurities?

    Dumb PSV Question

Thanks for your response guys. I will refer to Perry's on the mg impurities George.

    Dumb PSV Question

Good Afternoon, I'm pretty sure I have the answer to my question already but I wanted to bounce it off this board to get some feedback. We have two PSV's in a closed loop refrigeration loop with calcium chloride as the fluid. We had an extended power outage and everything warmed up to the point...

    Silly PSV Question

Here are the rest of the details on the system. There is a nitrogen blanket on the expansion tank for the system that is on the suction side of the pump. There is a PSV on the tank that is set at 150 psi though normal operating pressure is only 20 psi. Given that possible 150 psi nitrogen...

    Silly PSV Question

After looking a little more into it, a control valve will be a better choice for what we need. Thanks for your response LittleInch.

    Silly PSV Question

Good Morning Everyone! It has been a long time since I have had to size a PSV and I am a little rusty :) My scenario is blocked outlet from a pump (centrifugal) capable of 110m of head at shutoff. My questions is............what do I use for a flowrate for the relief case? I can't use the...

    Inspection/ Replacement Frequency for PSV's?

Thanks Duwe6. I have started working at a facility where no such excellent & dilligent record keeping has existed ;)

    Inspection/ Replacement Frequency for PSV's?

Thanks. What I have found so far from the API and NB is the onus is on the owner for developing their own plan based on the results from their own inspections.

    Inspection/ Replacement Frequency for PSV's?

Can someone point me in the direction of which section of the ASME code indicates how often PSV's need to be tested/replaced?

    Flowmeter Issues with PD Pump

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I am going to try the pulsation dampener option to see if that helps the problem. We need instantaneous flow indication because the pump is on ratio control based on the flowmeter measurement. Moltonmetal you are correct about the discharge pressure. The...

    Flowmeter Issues with PD Pump

Thanks David. The reagent flowrate in comparison to the vertical tank volume is very small so I don't know if there would be an instrument sensitive enough to detect a change in level and convert that into an accurate flowrate.

    Flowmeter Issues with PD Pump

Hi Everyone, We are having issues at our facility with a mag meter and a metering pump. The pump is an electric diaphragm pump with adjustable stroke length used for metering ferric sulfate into a tank. The problem is that we aren't getting accurate readings from the flowmeter because the...

    PSV Builtup Backpressure Question

Hello Everyone, I am currently in a disagreement with our process design consultant on a PSV that is relieving butane from a vessel. He has sized the PSV without accounting for any builtup backpressure on the PSV outlet. It is a conventional PSV with no bellows. The PSV is releiving 4500 SCFM...
