Hello,
We are running into some issues with soft feet and alignment of a typical centreline mounted (OH2) type API 610 pump. The piping is not yet connected and its a construction project, the shaft of the pump seems to sit a bit angular leading to issues with alignment and soft feet. However...
Hello,
During our construction/grouting of a single stage turbine and gearbox, the baseplate was incorrectly grouted leading to issues now with acheving alignment of the turbine gear train. There are a few proposals floating around - one would be to regrout the entire baseplate, the other would...
Hello,
I am basically trying to locate a handy reference (free or otherwise) that I can purchase to help me convert between european and american steel grades (say for instance S275J2 converts to 1019 CS) and also a handy reference that can help me understand what other best substitues can be...
Thank you Folks for the good input. I did finally call the vendor up in Europe to try to understand what they had done with the cooling water design. Basically, there are two concentric pipes going into the same port. The inner pipe prvides the cooling water inlet to the bearing housing and...
Bimr thanks for the API cooling water plans. I am quite familiar with those plans in this case it would be something of a plan K. The pump is a between bearing pump running boiler feed water. However the question remains on how can the given connection shown in the picture circulate water since...
1gibson, It is not bad piping, there is one input port into the bearing housing as seen in the picture, however there are two lines that are connected via the T/valve going into this port. One of the lines (top one) goes to the cooling water outlet header and the bottom line goes to the cooling...
Hello,
I have come across a recent pump installation (picture attached), where basically there is one port the cooling water piping is connected too however there is a T valve and the outlet lines go to two different headers Cooling water inlet and cooling water outlet. I do not understand how...
Hello,
I have seen various vendor OEM recommendations on performing the plant overspeed trip testing on steam turbines. I recollect reading in a paper where the vendor was recommending using a bypass on the steam line for some reason to do a proper over speed test. I cannot excatly recollect...
Hi,
I have read and seen in many instances mechanical seals in Amine (rich and lean) applications tend to have failures connected to crystallization of the amine on the atmospheric side of the seal. This is true in cases where a API 52 unpressuried plan is being used and therefore seal vendors...
Hi
I had a general query on the type 2 testing done as per PTC code 10 for compressors. I recollect reading at some point in research literature about the following and would appreciate further in depth input on the part of anyone having more experience :
1. PTC 10 allows Reynold number...
Hello
I am trying to understand if a reciprocating compressor in hydrogen service should trip when the ESD on the tempered water circuit trips the tempered water pumps. I would reason that the compressor should trip immediately as the tempered water system is tripped. The EPC argues that then...
Thank you gentlemen for your replies. I have decided to setup the model in hysys and simulate some conditions to see then temp profile on the outlet steam. The turbine will be started on a no load condition or load condition depending on the start up requirement and the vendor had just come back...
Hello
We are looking at possibly increasing the steam turbine speed by about a 150 rpm to bring down the discharge temp of the steam for downstream equipment. This is a small single stage turbine. And the plan is to increase the speed at no load condition to drop steam enthaply. The use of...
Hello,
We are facing an issue with one of our standard requirements versus what the vendor has been proposing regarding drain connections on the pulsation dampners on a recip machine. The machine is for hydrogen use and is a 3 stage recip machine with intercoolers with a MP and HP hydrogen...
Thanks David,
I did not understand your point about
(just having the block, bypass, and vent valves open is a good way overpressure some component and turn a bad situation into a nightmare).
wouldn't having the valves open is a good way to not overpressure.
