patswfc,
Thank you - good advice.
The site MIN design temperature is -15C. We talked to the steel manufacturer and we will order impact testing: -20C / 27 joule.
One other related question for you if you could offer your expertise.
I just wanted to understand more about the usual protocol...
Hello,
I am working on an international project and considering using the European HE Beam - HE160(B) for a skid frame.
The steel was identified as: HE160(B) S275JR04.
I found out the S275 refers to 275 N/mm2 Yield Strength.
I had no success finding information on the "JR04".
Please advise...
Hello,
We need a 20" x 12" Reducer for 720 psig design pressure @ 120 F. Piping is A106 Gr. B.
Per formulas in B31.1, this requires Schedule 40 on the 20 inch and STD wall on the 12 inch.
We found out that "purchased" fittings above 12 inch are only available in STD wall and for the 20 inch...
NFPA 101-2015 Section 7.3.3.3 states:
"Stairs and ramps that continue more than one-half story beyond the level of discharge shall be provided with an approved means to prevent or dissuade occupants from traveling past the level of discharge during emergency building evacuation."

I was trying to find a formula for the stress in a thin rectangular plate with 3 edges fixed and 1 Free with Applied Moment. I have done a FEA run but would like to back it up with a "classical hand stress calculation." I tried Roark's formulas for stress and strain but did not find this case.
XL83NL, thank you for the reply.
Yes, I noticed EN 13480-2:2012, Section 4.3.3 allows using other materials if approved with PMA.
Our pipe stress package CAEPIPE will run under EN 13480 analysis with either 316/316L or 1.4401/1.4404 allowable stresses - so I was considering filing both these...
We have a project where the preferred piping design code is EN 13480 which requires the use of "harmonized" steel.
However, our client has accepted the use of ASME SA 312 TP 316/316L from Particular Material Appraisals (PMA).
So my question is: can we still design and inspect to EN 13480 and...
Thank you for the feedback wannabeSE.
I was reading ASCE 7-05, Section 15.4.3 and it refers to Section 12.7.2 (as you mentioned) to figure out the effective weight W.
In Section 12.7.2, Item 1, it says to use a minimum of 25% of floor live load in areas used for storage. The intention of this...
I am trying to learn about ASCE 7-05 Chapter 12-15 as applied to skid based equipment.
Specifically, the lateral seismic base shear force depends on the non building structure operating weight.
If the skid has a platform live loading requirement of 100 psf, should none, some, or all of this...
