Let me define "rich":
I am of course using term "rich" loosely here. It's commonly accepted that one is truly rich when he/she no longer works for income.
But I am talking about working rich. For the sake of discussion, say over $120,000 annually.
I know, I know it's hardly considered wealthy...
I haven't met many rich engineers. Principals at engineering firms are typically well paid, but that is about the extent of it. Why?
Anyone knows a rich engineer and how she/he got there?
The way I see it:
i). Open up own practice;
ii). Rise up through the ranks of an established firm, ending...
Before I call my Anemostat rep,
I just wanna know what other engineers typically specify when it comes to sizing VAV boxes. What's the largest possible CFM through a VAV box for open office layout, interior/ perimeter zoning?
thanks
Guys,
I live in Queens, New York. A 2-bedroom/1-bath apt in Manhattan starts at $ 1,500,000. On top of mortgage you also pay a building maintenance fee (around $1,000 per month).
A 3,000 SF Townhouse would probably sell for $ 6,000,000.
Engineering salaries- probably in line with national...
I have been offered a position on a 6-person MEP consulting firm.
I know that in a month I will be managing my own projects, going to meetings, making desicions and being responsible for entire projects. All that with less than a year of HVAC experience. Once I get my PE I will be on a fast...
I know that the rule of thumb when sizing water pipes in a cooling tower is 3 GPM per 1 TON for condensed water (i.e. return) and 2.4 GPM per 1 TON for chilled water (i.e. supply).
Who came up with these figures, and don't these numbers depend on Temperature differences anyway?
Thank you for all your insightful suggestions, but my dilema had been solved. I was laid off!
No more commute, no more worries except finding a new job in Manhattan.
adios
If you cool air, you will reduce its ability to carry moisture- everyone who took Thermo knows that.
But what does that mean on molecular level?
I am trying to figure out a relationship (equations) that describes that phenomenon.
Thanks
Guys,
I don't know how it is where you are, but owning a car in New York City is an expensive priviledge.
A comprehensive coverage for someone my age (25) is around $ 4,500 per year, on top of that there are tolls (typically $ 4-6 on most bridges), parking in Manhattan ranges between $ 200-600...
Actually,
I don't even own a car, which one of the reasons I don't want to move to CT.
It costs me $293.00 per month to ride Metro North.
But otherwise I'd have to agree with you that driving each way would have been a pain.
adios
Dear friends,
Sometimes I feel stupid spending the time I spend every day commuting to and from work. I am talking 2 hours each way!
You see I live in NY City and work in southern Connecticut (Fairfield County).
I do not want to move to CT, simply because I'd be depressed there- we all know...
Dear fellow HVAC engineer,
why do you think you need a postgraduate degree in HVAC anyway?
By all means continue your education, but why spend more time and money in school on the knowledge that could better be gained in the field?
HVAC is one of those specialty fields where only PE...
I'd appreciate any helpfull information on how to effectively model an exterior shade (NOT overhang, recessed window, adjacent building or vertical fin, which are all given in Shade library).
I am dealing with either an exterior pull-down blind type shade or perhaps louvres.
Thanks
A contractor insists on intalling AIR-FLO units.
I've never heard about this brand before.
My first reaction: junk.
Does anyone have any experience with the quality of AIR-FLOW 10 SEER AC units, AIR-FLOW 90 Gas Furnaces?
Thanks
