I was just doing some calculations using the Hagen–Poiseuille equation and wondering if that was the best method. I don't have much more detail. I do know the new engine flow requirment and pressure and have use that to calculate a d^4/L value and have used that to try and calculate flow with...
I am trying to determine the end of life oil flow requirements of an engine with the oil viscosity at minimum specification limit. I have the flow requirement data based on testing and calculations for end of life (all bearings at spec limit) for a nominal viscosity (14.7 cst) for 40w oil but am...
I am working on a marine diesel application that is using MAN B&W turbochargers. MAN has some pretty strict requirements for the moisture of the intake air. They require 100% of drops > 13 microns and 98% of drops > 5 microns. I am guessing that they are try to keep out salts and contaminants...

On a project I am working on, a concern has been rasied about the effects of zinc in Diesel Fuel or JP-5 would have on the fuel system and engine wear of our Diesel Generators (1+ MW). Some of the fuel storage tanks also can funtion as water balast tanks and have zinc anodes installed in them...
For the systems I worked on at Siemens, they were just pressure relief type regulators that were put in an intank pump module. They were not part of the pump, still a seperate part. From what I remember they just returned back into the tank. Here is some info on the regulators...
I know that pulse width modulated pump have been in development for auto fuel systems, but as of a few years ago all the non return system I worked on just used in tank regulator modules. These regulators were the same ones that were put on the rails for the return systems, just moved back to...
Many of the automotive non return systems just use a return style regultor mounted in the fuel tank. This does reduce the the fuel heating and and ends up cheaper since only one line needs to be run up to the fuel rail. When they started swithching over to the non retrun systems the did find...
I am working on an application where 70/30 CuNi piping has been specified for JP5 delivery. The end user of the JP5 has carbon steel valves and connections that the CuNi piping has to mate up to. Are there any corrosion problems with the mating of these dissimilar metals and JP5?
It has also been reported that advancing the ignition timing will increase the NOx emission. This is against the belief that higher exhaust temperature will cause higher NOx emission. Any comment about this?
I will take a SWAG at that. The increased exhaust temperature, when timing is retated...
Synerject is the company doing the direct injection system for Mercury. http://www.synerject.com/di.html They started as a joint venture between Siemens and Orbital.

I was a fuel system engineer for Caterpillar and many of our fuel components used engine oil as hydraullic oil, like the HEUI injectors. Our system specification limit was 7% fuel dilution in the oil and we did all of our endurance testing with oil at that level or higher. I believe the engine...
