Does anyone have any experience with designing framing for openings with security glazing in behavioral health facilities to AAMA 501.8? I am trying to determine what forces the framing needs to be designed for and I am struggling to find that information. I am aware of the impact energy test...
Yeah...we saw those as well. The problem is the building is from the early 1950's and the DLJ load tables note early 1970's...so the timeline doesn't fit. Maybe we can take the allowable loads from those tables which are based on A36 steel and scale them down to A7 steel which is what the spec...
Does anybody have any info for allowable loads for a SJ 60L19 steel joist? We have the SJI book with all the old load tables, but the L-series only goes to 48" depth.
Hokie66...thanks for the link, I will check it out. Believe me...I am not the one pushing the issue. I agree with you. Perhaps my terminology wasn't correct either, perhaps I meant flat slab i.e. including column drops for punching shear. The punching shear isn't really what concerns me, it is...
For those of you out there who have quite a bit of experience with 2 way flat plate construction...what sort of slab thickness would you expect for a 32'x32' bay size? I know ACI has minimum thickness requirements, but that doesn't seem thick enough once you take into account long term...
I just looked at the (2) versions of the AISC manual. In the 13th on page 3-28 it lists that Table 3-12 is based on Fy=46 ksi (ASTM A500 Gr. B). In the 15th on page 3-12 it lists Table 3-12 is based on Fy=50 ksi (ASTM A500 Gr. C). The the yield strength used is also denoted at the the top of...
All...I think RWW002 hit it on the head...I was forgetting about the differing load factors that were part of the previous version of FEMA document. Thanks everyone for your input.
Has anyone used ICC 500-2014 or FEMA P-361(2015) for the design of storm shelters? My question is regarding the wind speeds as they have not changed. 7-10 increased the wind speeds to increase the loads to an ultimate level....so when you use the same wind speed as would have been used under the...
I don't know about third party testing, but I do know that in RAM Connection you can have it display all the connection checks/calculations with references to the appropriate section in the AISC manual.
