graphics card and memory for AutoCAD

I am in the process of upgrading one workstation and building an identical second one for use mainly with AutoCAD 2007. We do a lot of 3D modeling (many parts). I am using a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with Core 2 Duo E6600. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether the extra money for a...

    inserting items into dynamic blocks

Anyone know how to add items to a dynamic block that is already created in AutoCAD 2006/2007? I have a fairly complex block and the only way I can seem to add items to the selection set is when originally creating the block. When doing that of course, I lose the dynamic properties. For...

    LISP code to assemble parts?

Actually I just started learning how to use dynamic blocks after I posted that message. Is there a way to have a visibility state linked to length? i.e. I have blocks of 2, 4 and 8 units length. Machine starts with a common head unit, then can have the possible combinations: head+2+8n+tail...

    LISP code to assemble parts?

I do a lot of machinery drawings that are repetitive -- the machine has the same drive and end unit each time and the main thing that changes is overall length, which means I add 5 or 10-ft sections between the drive and end unit until the length is correct. Can anyone point me at some sample...

Hardware for fast AutoCAD 3D modeling

I've heard about the SLI boards and ATI Crossfire, but have also read that gaming cards do nothing to provide hardware graphics acceleration in AutoCAD. I did find some utility that would take certain Radeon cards and reflash them with FireGL bios, but my X600XT isn't supported. From what I've...

Hardware for fast AutoCAD 3D modeling

I am going to be switching to AutoCAD 2007 very shortly. Will it run faster on WinXP Pro x64 than on standard WinXP Pro? I was only planning on installing 2GB of RAM -- would more help? I'm currently leaning towards the recently released Core 2 Duo 6600 CPU with a FireGL V7200 graphics card.

Slow plotting with DesignJet 500 and AutoCAD 2006

We use a HP DesignJet 500/42-in plotter and plot complex line drawings from AutoCAD 2006. Originally, it was painfully slow getting the plot files to the plotter, but we now plot to LPT1: via the NET USE command, which spools the plot into system memory and then sends it across the LAN to a...

Hardware for fast AutoCAD 3D modeling

I'm currently running a computer with a 3.4GHz P4 (Pentium 4 630), 1GB PC-4200 DDR 400 RAM, and a Sapphire ATI Radeon X600XT graphics card with 256MB memory and use AutoCAD 2006 to create very complex 3D models of entire facilities including machinery, piping, building structures, etc. As the...
