Thank you Greg & GodzillaSuit!
Will look into Torque, definitely. I am informed that PBS Pro is free / open source (tech support will cost though) unlike PBS Works recommended by our Altair supplier.
On the other hand our Abaqus supplier has assured us that they already offer Remote Solver...
Hi everyone.
We're building an eight node cluster machine at our company for running large simulations. Currently we use Abaqus and Altair HyperWorks for FEA / CFD. I have contacted our license provider at Altair regarding the use of RADIOSS and Optistruct solvers. Their response is that while...
Hi!
I need some material data to run finite element analysis on a wheel hub. Unfortunately 20MnCrB5 is not common. A lot of google results for 20MnCr5 though, but I'm not sure how close they'd be to 20MnCrB5. The wheel hub has tight tolerances so I'd like to get as accurate results as possible...
Hi,
Thanks Rob for your reply. I had to put this project on hold because of more urgent FEA, and now I'm back!
The 1mm displacement is propagated throughout the steps. To clarify I will share my Load + BC set up:
** STEP: Step-1
**
*Step, name=Step-1, nlgeom=YES
equilibrium
*Static

Hi everyone.
I am modeling (or trying to) a truck tire inflated at 300 kPa, carrying a load of 1,000 kg (per wheel), on a rigid plane. The request came from design engineers who want to understand the relationship between contact patch vs vehicle weight vs inflation pressure. I figured I should...
Thank you, it's good to feel validated! I'm in the process of writing FEA Best Practices for my team. I wouldn't want to make the mistake of telling everyone to do away with files that might be necessary to resolve unforeseen issues in the future...
Hello FEA world.
Just curious, to see the difference between one FEA group to another. When you perform housekeeping of FEA files, which files do you delete and which ones you keep as record (in case you need to revisit the simulation or reuse some tricks)?
Personally I only save .cae and...
Hi,
I'm not an expert but these are my best guesses...
1- As far as I know Abaqus computes general contact differently than self contact. Therefore if you have self contact + general contact in your model Abaqus will carry out the analysis with both contact definitions active. But if you...
Sometimes Abaqus shows warnings if it detects redundant keywords in the input file. But a warning may or may not lead to a fatal error (for fatal errors Abaqus will terminate).
My guess is, for #1: you may have specified general contact, and after that added another contact for specific area...
Hi,
Did you manage to solve the problem? I'm trying to do a similar thing (crushing a vehicle roof with a rigid plate moving downwards; see ECE R29 or FMVSS 216). My plate is analytical rigid with a ref point but Abaqus Explicit tells me it can't proceed because the node / RP to which I...
Hi,
I'm curious (and not likely to be able to offer a solution, sorry)... did your analysis run? Based on the warning messages I presume that it did, and Abaqus was simply telling you mass scaling was applied on 2D & 3D elements but not 0D (point mass) and rigids.
cheers
Jo
That's a good suggestion! I can prepare a .py that checks if .lck file exists in the working directory every hour, and submit the next explicit job if .lck is not found :)
Thank you!! Have a great weekend!
Hi everyone.
I have an explicit job that is running right now on my machine which I estimate will finish running in about 33 hours. I would like to submit a command to my machine to run a variant of the same explicit job a couple of hours after that. But, weekend is approaching...
In my...
Hi Richard.
Greg is right. Most solvers come as a complete FEA package - pre, solver, post - and LISA, HyperWorks are no different. It's just that people find different functions offered by different software more efficient for their purposes.
Anyway I just had a meeting with Altair guys...
Thank you very much for your feedback! In this case the comparison is done for a fender panel with different rib designs. The optimal design is a compromise between higher eigen frequency and minimal addition of ribs (to comply with weight budget).
I was simply wondering what is the use of...
