You can try double clicking on the hatching to bring up the Area Hatch/Fill Properties box. Make sure Material crosshatch is unchecked and click on None. If that does not work you can try Tools - Options - System Options. Under Drawings - Area Hatch/Fill. Click on None.
With in the assembly creat a new part. Then while editing the new part inside the assembly, click on Join, then select the parts you want to join together. This will creat a new part file of the joined parts with out disturbing the original parts.
You can also use Adobe Illustrator or Wintopo to vectorize your tif file and save it as a dxf.

Click on Tools, Check. This will tell you if there are any bad faces or gaps. Is this a native solidworks file? If not when you import the file you can run Import Diagnosis and that will tell you of any problems if there are any.
