Excellent. Thank you all for the input.
If I may steer the discussion to materials. I'm considering building the exhaust manifold flange and the first 4" of primary tube out of aluminum. Then attaching slip fit primaries.
The rational is that this will aid in dissipating combustion heat...
Peter,
Thanks for the input but I think I would rather stick with my simpler method. With the wire frame I won't have to trouble with mitering the flex tubing and my space constraints are likely more lax than most; 25cm+ for each manifold from cylinderhead to chassis bulkhead.
Inline...
Alright then, I'll go with my gut and some simple cross sectional area considerations.
The exhaust ports are 26mm at the valve seat (~1062sqmm cross section), which wil step up to 1 5/8" (~1233sqmm cross section), then primaries stepping to 1 3/4" (~1439sqmm), then a 13* merge collector...
Gents, the plethora of exhaust diameter calculators available online are giving me a wide variety of ideal primary diameter, and that's a problem; there's only one ideal.
I'm working on cam and exhaust manifold designs for a 3.5 V6. In a recent thread there are some equations but they seem to...
I'm working on plotting the lift curve for the regrind profile right now. When I get that figured I can talk details of the acceleration curve.
I looked through the forum trying to find some good info on stem/guide clearance and found a few old locked posts. Someone mentioned running them so...
Here's a more direct question; How do you feel about the possibility of replacing a OEM 36mm IN valve with a 35mm Ferrea Comp Plus IN valve considering the following:
1. The OE valve is 54g compared to the 35mm's 50g.
2. Honda replaced the 36mm IN valve with a 35mm valve of nearly identical...
Thank you all for your feedback. Speaking with one of the tech guys at Ferrea racing, and hearing him dismiss the aluminum retainers that his own company sells, I had a hunch that he might be right about them but wanted to bounce the question off of you guys.
The valve spring and valves for...
I'm trying to use valvesprings in my application (Honda V6, J32a2) that were designed for a different vehicle. The spring dimensions are workable and the seat pressure and open pressure are just what I'm looking for.
The caveats are; 1. Installed spring height needs to altered with shimmed...
Thanks everyone for the input. I really do appreciate you taking the time to inform me.
I know I've seen it discussed around here in the past but I can't seem to find it now; What grit should I take the intake tract to? My guess/vague memory is 80grit but I want to get some professional...
naturalextraction; The intention is to have a weekend warrior/ NASA time attack vehicle.
Thanks everyone for your input.
I went ahead and started another thread to ask my elementary questions and there is a link to a web-album of the buildup there...
No it is not a FI project as of yet. I intend to eventually build a bullet-proof bottom end for it and run a pair of large Rotrex superchargers, but that won't happen until I have the chassis in a state capable of making use of that much power, and the rest of the engine, fuel, coolant, and...
Again, everyone, thank you for the input.
Pat, the factory HG is .75mm thick and three layers. I intended to only run a single layer of it, but it sounds like I can make sure the dome sits flush with the top of the bore, fill the quench pad with weld, and then have it shaved a few thousandths...
Tmoose; when referring to increase in quench area I am referring to a decrease in piston to chamber clearance. I understand that the last moment "squish" of charge that had occupied the open space BTDC is beneficially agitative, and the resulting denser a/f helps provide a faster combustion...
