cam session configuration - change from mill to lathe - possible?

Hi guys, I have a part I was making on the 3 axis mill. Cam session configuration is of course set and all machining operations finished. I want to try making this part on the lathe. Can I use the same model and change the cam session configuration from mill to lathe and use the same model? How...

NX cam - non linear disc milling - how?

Hi Tingsryd, I solved my problem. I have done quite a bit of slot cutting and there are many ways to do it. I am familiar with the tool creation and have all that set up. The problem was using the swept function to create the initial model. I made the model again using extrude and subtract...

NX cam - non linear disc milling - how?

On further investigation I am wondering is the use of the swept function to create the shape in the model causing a problem here? cheers!

NX cam - non linear disc milling - how?

Hi Guys, attached is an image showing an open slot I would like to cut out with a disc mill. It is a non linear path (a couple of straight lines tangential to a curve). I can't work out how to do this, any pointers greatly appreciated... many thanks, James

NX cam - cutting parameters, stock - Intol/Outtol

Hi John, many thanks for the info. I am mainly making prismatic parts. How would this effect hole milling? Looking at the Gcode this is circular motion, G03 and G02 so not affected by intol/outtol values? What are sensible number for small prismatic parts? intol 0, outtol 0.005 - is that ok...

NX cam - cutting parameters, stock - Intol/Outtol

Hi Guys, can someone kindly explain the practical use of cutting parameters settings 'Intol' and 'Outtol'. I am making some small parts on the milling machine with reasonable tolerance requirements ideally trying to hold around plus/minus 20 microns. For example I am hole milling a 4.49mm...

Solved - percent of flat diameter at 2% starts to get there... thanks!

    Adaptive milling questions... NX1880

Hi Guys, I am using the adaptive milling operation in NX1880. This replaces a trochoidial milling operation I was happily using. I am using high speed machining cutters (6 flute, small radial depth of cut) and coming in full axial depth of cut from the outside of the job and skimming around it...

nx12 chamfer mill manufacturing operation - simple 0.2mm symetrical chamfer, how?

Tingsryd - that works for round holes, many thanks! What about shapes that are not round? What is the best way to do it now? The previous method using planar milling as in NX11 is no longer clear... Any ideas? cheers, James

nx12 chamfer mill manufacturing operation - simple 0.2mm symetrical chamfer, how?

Hi, can somebody tell me how to mill for example a 0.2mm symetrical chamfer on a 12mm hole with a 6mm, 45degree chamfer tool in nx12. I am really struggling. I am trying to use the planar mill operation and set the tracking points for my chamfer tool as I did in NX11 but the functionality...

machining strategy - long radiused slot... - nx11 cam

Hi Guys, attached is an image of a part I want to machine. What do you think would be the most appropriate strategy to rough and finish the radiused slot that runs along the part? cheers, Jameshttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e98b34ce-3806-483a-b70f-14d7e1fb837c&file=strategy.jpg

slot milling with a planar milling op... -nx cam 12

Hi John, that is what I thought. Part file attached, maybe you can show me what I am doing wrong! Tool is 1.5mm thickness, slot is 1.6mm. many thanks, Jameshttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=6335d659-5404-4334-a1bf-ac0b475371dd&file=planarmilltest.prt
