modern motorcycle 4 valve head porting

Before you touch enything I would do a dummy assembly & determing. Squish clearance & piston to valve clearances. While at it I would also burette the chambers as often actual compression is not exactly as per specs. If you a have no room to skim the head or deck I would leave the chamber well...

Semi Technical question regarding shim stack size and their effect on

Shock absorbers while looking simple can be very complex. To start with what are you trying to achive, & in what application & what do you mean by 'improving' the low piston speed force. What type of shock absorbers, car?, bike?, quad??? You can significantly change the performance of shock...

    Calculation For Intake runner length?

For individual runner length & diameters you can either test away on the dyno or use a resonable simulation, simple formula based of rpm & cam duration are not really relevant. A good wave analysis program that takes into account cam profile, flow data, valve dia, throat dia & throttle body size...

    Need help to un-restrict a Honda X4 1300

The 180km/h restriction is common on many Japanese domestic bikes. It usually involves a resistor that is cut when the bike reaches 180km/h. On the back of the speedo you should have an earth, +12v & look for a wire that runs from the CDI to the back of the speedo & measure the resitance. It can...

    Exhaust Muffler Design

Most aftermarket exhausts will be straight through. don't know what deflector plates are??? If you want to controll noise a small amount have a reverse tapered baffle. i.e. start at the tail pipe spigot at 2" and taper down to 1 1/2" at muffler exit. Use stainless perf for the core, wrap the...

Slipper Clutch, back torque limiters call them what u want

You could do what yamaha did with the M1 & run a servo motor to independantly control two of the throttle bodies. Open them slightly & feed fuel, for two cylinders only on overun. The whole thing was mapped for gear & rpm. The whole idea is to control rear whell chatter/hop under heavy braking...

Slipper Clutch, back torque limiters call them what u want

Errr, in terms of operation I still get some chatter from the rear wheel at lower speeds but can really knock down several gears at higher speeds. I still run a high idle speed but only about 2 to 2.5k. The more modern ones may work better but have not used one. Regards, MB

Slipper Clutch, back torque limiters call them what u want

Slipper clutch is usually made up of a ramp that forces the clutch open on a closed throttle. Not a new idea, I have one in my 1991 model kawasaki (standard). To get set up correctly some clutches will have different rate ramps & springs. Most racers will make do with a high idle speed. There...

    Cylinder Head Machining

Thanks for the responses. Obviously you need to skim the whole surface in a single pass, is there any specification as to how wide the dia of the cutter to the width of the head should be? Thanks, MB

    Dyno Installation

Don't just look at airflow for required HP, also look at the volume of room & the number of airchanges per/min. Think if you had an engine blow & an oil fire you could have a large build up of gases. As WilliamH state you need fresh outside air, introduce it at a low level into the room &...

    Dyno Installation

This is a little off the topic but one thing that is often overlooked with dyno installations is the ventillation setup of the dyno room. If this is not done adequately there is the obvious health risk of build up in exhaust fumes. Also alot of heat is generated, this in itself can often distort...

    Cylinder Head Machining

So a standard three tool surface cutter set up square, with tool & bed speed adjusted for required surface finnish is the go? Thanks, MB

    Cylinder Head Machining

I have been searching for tooling setup to skim cylinder heads on a mill. I have been told that you turn the head of the mill 1/2 deg to prevent backcut on the surface & use a large radius cutter with only a single cutting tool. But this would leave the decking surface slightly curved. Is this...

    Advancing CDI units

Can do it by a slotted tone wheel or why not use a programmable CDI so you can write your own advance curve. There are a few on the market. Regards, MB
