Thanks for the replies. Here is a little more background info of the parts. They are cast and finished machined steel machine parts that my customer needs replacement parts for because they apparently are not available from the OEM (outdated equipment). I do appreciate the info on chemical...
I have some steel parts that I am creating drawings for and need to determine what type of steel they are. What is the best way to do this? Preferrable tests would be non-destructive.
Thanks,
Matt

With threaded pipe connections, are there standard values for how far the pipe should thread into the fitting? In other words, what would the overlap be from the end of the pipe to the end of the fitting? I am trying to specify pipe cut lengths that join two fittings fixed in space. Know...
In SW05 SP5.0 I have a sheet metal part that is conically shaped (using Lofted Bends) with other added features. I can unfold this into a flat pattern without any trouble. I have derived a part from this shape that will be completely round and free of any linear edges or flat faces. When I...
Ken's method works well and is a lot more simple than his long description would have you believe. Only took about 30 seconds the first time.
Thanks, everyone. I knew there had to be some work arounds for this bug.

I have come across a little detailing problem and I am wondering if there is a work around. Solidworks 2005 SP5.0 by the way.
I insert a front view of a part, don't like the orientation so I rotate it 180 degrees. Then I try to add vertical and horizontal ordinate dimensions and I get...
Thanks for all of the helpful replies. Just for the sake of conversation, lets eliminate the renew option. Would you upgrade to 2006 with minimal SP's or stay with 2005 with high level SP's? Forget about compatibility issues because none of my clients even own SW.

smcadman,
I haven't found this to be true. When I first bought SW and didn't subscribe, I had to fight to get the most current SP at the time. They tried to give me a release with 3 month old SP. It has been my experience that SW makes it difficult to not subscribe.

My SW subscription is about to expire and I am faced with the decision of renewing or not. I am a one man operation and the main reason I subscribed in the first place was to stay current with a high volume client. That work dried up almost immediately after subscribing.
Now I have the 2006...
Brilliant! Thanks for the replys. All were helpful. mncad, what you described is exactly what I was looking for and it works like a charm.

Interesting. If the drawing is able to lose the reference and have you point it in the right direction, is it possible to just change the reference from one model to another and have everything in the same folder?
ctopher: I am not sure if this answers your question or not, but for the parts...
I have an assembly that I completed the design on and do not anticipate making any changes to. I have another assy to design that is very similar with some dimensional changes. I decided not to make another assy configuration to avoid headaches. I decided to make all assy and part files...
Thanks for all of the replys. I think I will pass on this which was the way I was leaning. I don't have any inside information as far as the "target price" is concerned but I agree with the "Perception is 99% of reality" quote. Reputation is important to me as a great majority of my business...
I helped company A design a piece of equipment for their plant. Company A requests bid for fabrication of this equipment from company B, whom I also provide services for, one of which being pricing the fabrication of equipment. Company B sees that I was involved in the design of this equipment...
