Try the Intellicad from RC Task. It is an AutoCAD clone. Writes and reads native dwg. Accepts lisp commmands and the enviorment is just like autocad is for 10% of the price.
You wont be dissapointed for sure.
Hope its helps

3 mm thick? I think it is most than maximum acceptable.
You need to check the cause of this cracks. If it was cause by evaporation of the water or retraction. Others causes should be checked like stiffness, load and the structural slab detaling.
Even well adensed and correct aditived concrete...
How can I explain the fact that a node in a ideal truss shape have 3 degree of freedom( 2 translations and one rotatios above z axis) but in the considerations for structural analysis we only refers only just two translations degrees of freedom and don´t mention the rotation(I know that the...
Take it easy man,
We are all from mankind, full of imperfections and foolishness.
I agree with you but our works are hard enough to keep us with the same army discipline all the time. Don't take the 'u's and others things so seriuosly.
Cheers,

Hi,
I'm a structural engineering since '84 and belive me you'll never be appart of learning, be it at school, researching at books, libraries or in the internet. Don't study just the subject you think that will be profitable. Learn most what you like to do. Do what you like and you'll never...
Hi,
If you can't deal with your superiors, you should keep the work for 3 years for helping you developing marketing and professional skills, and make your own business, doing just what you want. But be aware that instead having 2 boss you will have the whole world as boss (your expected and...
Hi,
It's not easy but,
Tell him that you need the same opportunity he needed some years ago. If he understands it, the thing is resolved, if not you don't have a good boss and you should leave him anyway.

Try the 'Structural Analysis on Microcomputers' - Chu-kia Wang, It is simple and powerful, you'll learn about Static, Stiffness matrix algorithm for constructing the global structure matrix and how to write your own codes (Basic) to do the job.
I discovered that we can draw the entire structure, 2D or 3D in AutoCAD14, explode all polylines, position the UCS icon on TOP view and export as DXF file.
Import in Multiframe in the same units you've drawn and you can save time in modelling in MF graphical interface. I found it's more...
Do you assign the joints of a truss-type structure as pinned or rigid?
I always use the joints as rigid but the static matrix is bigger and the analysis procedure is slower in order to calculate bending moments, shear and axial stresses.
Does anyone noticed any problems in modelling trusses...
It's difficult to have just one soft for all porpouse.
But I think that Multiframe4D, SectionMaker and SteelDesigner will help you a lot and it's probably the best price of the analysis software.
Best Regards,
