This may be one for the UK/Europeans . Can anyone explain which would be the preferred method of calculating the stiffness modulus from a plate load test
We normally use the formula given in HD25/94, E= 17.6(CBR)^0.64.
However, recently requested to calculate stiffness using Eurocode 7, Part 2...
Thanks, as I thought. I was just wondering is there a general rule when one is chosen over the other, such as when an soil lies within a certain strength range. Obviously soils tend to be tested in confined conditions while concrete/rock are tested in the unconfined condition. The results we...
Is the there a standard to work out the saturated loose bulk density of a material or can it be calculated using the dried bulk density & PD. The material looks like a lightweight roof soil with a high organic content & dried bulk density of 800kg/m3. Particle density has not yet been established

as a lab tech i was asked the following question today and was unable to answer!! hopefully one of you guys will point me in the right direction.
what load do i need to apply to a soil sample to achieve a loading rate of 0.46n/mm2 using a 50mm plunger?
i'm sorry but this is all the information...
any of you guys using a lightweight deflectometer to replace plate bearings? if so are results comparable and is it easy to convince the client of this?
i am a lab tech and have being working in site lab for last 18 months. i have being carrying out liquid limits on clause 804 since then however no-one i ask can tell me the relevence of this test for this material. i understand the meaning of 'liquid limit' but why is knowing its value usefull...
