The file type your looking for is called a parasolid in unigraphics. Use "File-export parasolid" then pick the solids from the screen you want included in this file and hit ok to make it happen. There is a choice on what version of parasolid it will create in the dialog, use the latest if you...
good point, but the intial number comes from somewhere each time you start. I would have to think that somewhere like maybe in the mscatalog directory there is a file with these numbers or values listed.
We've had more than one user request this to be changed so I like to fix it for them.
I'm having trouble finding were to change the default number when creating a feature. Heres and example, when I create a pad the default length is 0.787in.... I realise somewhere this is probably set to 20mm and since I'm using english measurements it converts it to 0.787in. I'ld like to set the...
I am in the process of writing a long post about going from ug to catia. Maybe it will help someone here too.

oh yeah and before I forget the desk command is like the assembly navigator in ug. Its very fussy though and doesn't always like to replace or relink everypart. The "desk" will show you your assembly tree.
Well there is a start I will try to add more, but I need to do some actual work here today too. I hope this helps and I may have made a few mistakes so please comment or add.
Next feature in catia is hole, guess what in ug its also called hole. Boths softwares allow straight holes, counter sunk, counter bored, flat or pointed bottoms, and tapered holes. Now I think a tapered hole in ug tapers from the hole start face, but catia tapers from the bottom face... don't...
Just to be clear so far I'm only comparing the catia part design workbench to ug's application modeling.
I probably should have started with sketches.
First off catia sketches and UG's sketches are very much a like! If you are comfortable with sketches in UG then you will have no problem with...
This might seem simple, but I have to start somewhere.
The specification tree works like the model navigator.
In that tree you can use "Define in work object" the same as you use make current feature in UG. Lets say you have a part body with a pad, a hole and a chamfer. Now if you wanted to add...
Stephen I know your pain, I've spent the last 6 years using Ug from version 13 to nx2. I recently took this position using Catia v5. It took me about three months to discover all the catia/ug similarities. Altough I was able to start being productive right away with out any training. What are...
will autocad create a cgm? Try turning your text to polylines during or before export. This will ensure that the text comes in the same size. It will be line not text, but should look exactly as you exported and allow your customer to plot it as you saw it.
Is there a setting or variable I can set so that my view names and scale come in in all caps? Right now my view names come in with the first letter ow the view name and scale in caps only. Is this something thats more complicated then a setting?
catiajim I finally applied you method to a cast and machined part and its exactly what I was looking for. Doing a past special of the "partbody" from my cast part was the key point I had missed before. this gave me a linked solid in my machine part. This worked great.
