gdt question on use of a word in feature control frame

Thanks for the input and yes it is the symmetry symbol. This should give me enough information to explain should someone question why I removed it. Lon

gdt question on use of a word in feature control frame

I have a drawing (drawn 1988 interpreted per MIL-STD-100)using feature control frames. The symbol used is symmetry and after the value the word "TOTAL" is used. The drawing is being redrawn to dimension & tol standards ASME Y14.5-2009. I cannot find a reference to the word being used and...

    Question on laptop configuration

Patrick, They went with the XPS and although I tried, was not able to provide any input. Now that the XPS is not working out and after a visit from our SW VAR they are looking to upgrade to a laptop workstation machine. They seem a little more amenable to input from the users this time and...

    Question on laptop configuration

All, My work computer is being upgraded and listed below is what I am being offered. I have been asked for input (immediately) and am wondering if anyone sees something here that either would be a good fit or if something can be approved upon. At this point we are running SW 2014 SP5 and are...

    slot dimension

Hope this is the correct thread for this question. I have a welded sheet metal part. The part has two features at the bottom that will have a vent disc welded into place basically making this an inseparable assembly. Incoming QA cannot check the dimensions of the slots after the disc has been...

parts list configurations on separate sheets

We have a printed circuit board assembly being developed that has space rated components and specific notes for processing and testing a space rated board. We want to make a test board using commercial available parts (cheaper and less lead time). Space board would be XX54321 (no dash number...

hole wizard quantity callout on opposite faces

Thanks to academix. Finally had an opportunity to try this and it works nicely. Thanks to all

hole wizard quantity callout on opposite faces

I too have briefly tried those suggestions with no luck. Any simple explanation, as deviant said, would be appreciated. Thanks

hole wizard quantity callout on opposite faces

I have a sheet metal part with a flange on each side. On the opposing outside faces of each flange are a series of countersunk holes, 6 on each side (using hole wizard). Each series of holes are thier own feature in the feature tree. When I dimension thses holes in the drawing using the hole...

    Repetitive feature dimension (total)

Is the total overall reference dimension for repetitive features required to be on the drawing? Example 4 X .250 (=1.000) or 4 X .250. I recall reading somewhere that the reference dimension is either no longer used or optional. Cannot remember where I read it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Significant units used for thru hole dia and c'bore dia and depth

The 2 versions of ASME Y14.5 1994 and 2009 read the same in 2.3.2 and the referenced paragragh 1.6.1. 2.3.2 deals with displaying the tolerances of a certain distinct feature. Thinking about it (should have done that in the first place), a common C'bore hole has 3 distinct features; thru dia...

Significant units used for thru hole dia and c'bore dia and depth

Is it permissable to use a mix of 2 and 3 place decimal dimensions units (inch)in the same callout example 3 place decimal for thru hole tolerance and 2 place decimal for c'bore diameter and 2 place decimal for c'bore depth. ASME Y14.5 2009 states that in using bilateral tolerances all units...

    Grouping of deleted note numbers

I have been asked if it is acceptable to take a group of note numbers (in sequence) on a drawing and put them on one line "4-11 DELETED", instead of the customary listing each note number individually on it's own line, with the term deleted after the number. (we use term deleted, not removed)...

    Picture files used on drawings

Thanks, I do not have ASME Y14.4m either, but it got me thinking, and that might be dangerous. I do have the Genum "Modern Drafting & Standards Manual" and in there it defines pictorial drawings as either isometric, trimetric or oblique drawn views. It includes a paragraph referencing "photo...

    Picture files used on drawings

On a few occasions I have been asked to insert/embed a jpeg file onto a drawings sheet and with the exception of one time have told engineering that this is a practice I would like to stay away from for the following reasons: 1. Clarity, graphics files typically do not have the best resolution...
