Adding eccentricity using "coefficient lateral force"

Accidental torsion can only be used together with rigid diaphragm. If you don't specify rigid diaphragm in you model, ETABS will not introduce accidental torsion. Besides a structural model without rigid diaphragms needs to be analyzed as a full 3D structure in lateral analysis, which makes...

How to design the slab in slab-wall structure using ETABS results?

I have used shell element to model the floor slab in the structure and assigned automatic mesh options to it. I am quite satisfied with the overall outcome of the building. Now I am going to do the slab design. Since ETABS does not have the function of slab design, I want to export from ETABS a...

Do you include concrete floor in modeling a building?

Thanks guys. I have found that you can define the meshing property of area objects before running the analysis in ETABS and SAP2000. By doing this one can get the right result in surrounding beams without having to mesh every slab manually.

Do you include concrete floor in modeling a building?

Any other suggestions? I have conducted some test samples in ETABS and found the floors (area objects) need not be meshed if they are modeled with PLANK or DECK, which transfer vertical load to surrounding beams sigle way. However if you model the floors with SLAB and do not mesh the area...

Do you include concrete floor in modeling a building?

Do you model the cast-in concrete floor in the calculation of buildings? If so, please give the element type and modeling techniques you use. If not, please specify the way you determine the loads transferred to surrounding beams. Discussions will be based on SAP2000, ETABS or STAAD Pro.

    Wall element in ETABS

Thanks barefoot_hillbilly. According to ETABS USER'S MANUAL wall element can be constructed by shell element and frame element together. As far as I can see, using shell element can simulate both the in-plane and out-of-plane stiffness of shear wall. Why should I use frame elements simultaneously?

    Wall element in ETABS

Thanks Prascad. I understand the difference between membrane, plate and shell. What confuses me is that ETABS USER MANUAL says the software allows a user to simulate shear wall with line object as well as area object. What's the function of these line objects in a wall element?

    Wall element in ETABS

Who can tell me what kind of element ETABS uses to simulate shear wall? I also want to know the property of this element and its difference between common membrane, plate and shell elements. Thanks in advance.
